Invincible Season 4 Drops Major Transformers Easter Egg (And You Probably Missed It)

The latest episode of Invincible’s fourth season was particularly intense, escalating the conflict between Mark Grayson and the Viltrumite Empire. The episode ended with a shocking reveal and offered a glimpse into the Viltrumite Empire’s history, showing how Thragg rose to power and established a ruthless, survival-of-the-fittest environment. Eagle-eyed viewers may have also noticed a surprising reunion of cast members from Transformers appearing in the episode.

The latest episode of Invincible showed us what the Viltrumite Empire was like in the past, focusing on the former ruler, Argall. We see Argall leading with Thragg as his trusted advisor, while Thaedus, who used to be part of the Viltrumite leadership, attempts to de-escalate tensions. Legendary voice actor Frank Welker brings Argall to life – you might recognize Welker as the voice of Scooby-Doo, Garfield, and Megatron. Meanwhile, Frank Cullen, known as the voice of Optimus Prime, plays Thaedus, creating a surprising pairing of the voices behind the Autobots and Decepticons’ leaders.

Optimus and Megatron’s Potential Future Reunion

Fans recently enjoyed seeing the original voice actors for Megatron and Optimus Prime together again on an episode of Invincible, and there’s a good chance they haven’t seen the last of these iconic characters. Robert Kirkman, creator of Invincible, is developing an animated series based on Skybound’s Energon Universe – a shared world for Transformers, G.I. Joe, and other Hasbro properties. Although a release date hasn’t been announced, it’s possible that Frank Welker and Peter Cullen could reprise their famous roles in the new show.

Last year, Robert Kirkman, the creator of Invincible, shared how he and his team landed the opportunity to create comics within the Energon Universe. It wasn’t a direct offer from Hasbro; instead, Hasbro was seeking pitches from various publishers. Kirkman’s team found out about it late in the process, quickly assembled a presentation, and fortunately won the rights. He believes the project is successful because everyone involved is genuinely enthusiastic and creatively driven, prioritizing fun and imagination over strict business planning. He and his team are thrilled to be working within this universe.

As the fourth season of Invincible nears its end, it looks like the powerful Viltrumite Empire is heading towards Earth. Considering the destruction caused by just two Viltrumites – Omni-Man and Conquest – the arrival of the entire race poses a huge threat to Mark and all those defending the planet.
