Julie Andrews Appears in Rare Video for Parkinson’s Disease Conference

The hills are alive with the sound of Dame Julie Andrews.

After all, the 90-year-old made a rare video appearance to kick off the annual World Parkinson’s Congress conference to share her support for the organization.

“Good evening, everyone,” Julie began the May 24 video, “I’m Julie Andrews and I’m pleased to welcome you to the seventh World Parkinson’s Congress. Your participation is invaluable as we seek to find a cure to this terrible disease.”

She continued, saying she understood how incredibly painful this situation is. She hoped everyone could offer support and help end it, and she pledged to do her part. She expressed her gratitude.

The actress from The Princess Diaries shared a video while relaxing in a comfortable white chair near a window. She wore a simple outfit of a white turtleneck and a gray sweatshirt, completing the look with a long gold necklace and large, matching earrings.

Now in her nineties, Julie continues to thrive in her career. She shares daughter Emma Walton Hamilton, 63, with her former husband Tony Walton, and has two other daughters – Amy Leigh Edwards, 52, and Joanna Lynne Edwards, 48 – with her late husband, Blake Edwards.

Besides narrating the popular series Bridgerton as Lady Whistledown for four seasons, she recently revealed that she and her longtime writing partner, Emma, are re-releasing their 2010 children’s book, The Great American Mousical. The two have written 30 books together over the last 25 years.

The actress best known for The Sound of Music was happy she and her daughter collaborated on the project. This was particularly meaningful because a throat surgery in 1997 had ended her professional singing career.

She told Forbes in 2023 that having a creative project is essential for her well-being. After a difficult throat surgery, working with Emma on this project has been a particularly joyful and revitalizing experience, helping her through a sad time.

Nonetheless, she knows how lucky she is to thrive in such a competitive industry.

Julie shared that she feels incredibly fortunate throughout her career. She believes a combination of good timing, helpful mentors, and unexpected opportunities have contributed to her success, and that it all happened organically rather than through careful planning. She emphasized how lucky she’s been to have these positive surprises come her way.
