Jurassic Park’s Sam Neill Cancer Free After “Extraordinary” Treatment

Sam Neill is grateful for the current chapter of his life.

After a four-year battle with stage 3 blood cancer, the Jurassic Park actor has announced he is now cancer-free. He credits a new immunotherapy treatment with his recovery, after traditional chemotherapy stopped working.

Okay, so I found out I have lymphoma, which has just been… a lot. I told 7News Australia about it recently. I went through chemo, and honestly, it was rough – totally draining and awful. But it was keeping me going, you know? It was keeping me alive, and that’s all that mattered.

Then the chemotherapy stopped being effective,” he said. “I didn’t know what to do, and it seemed like my condition was worsening – which, naturally, wasn’t good.

After trying other treatments, the 78-year-old received CAR T-cell therapy, a treatment that can help fight certain blood cancers by teaching the body’s own immune system to attack the cancer cells, as explained by the American Cancer Society.

He admitted 2023 had been challenging at times, telling The Guardian that difficult moments actually helped him appreciate life and the people around him. He expressed simply being thankful to be alive.

He did, however, come to terms with his own mortality as he focused on his treatment.

He confessed he wasn’t scared of death itself, but the idea of it bothered him. He’d love to have another ten or twenty years, he explained. They’d put a lot of work into creating beautiful terraces and planting olive and cypress trees, and he wanted to be there to watch everything grow and flourish.

He added that he cherishes his grandchildren and wants to watch them grow up. However, he wasn’t worried about dying himself.
