Kate Hudson Details Dream of Working With Mom Goldie Hawn

Kate Hudson isn’t running away from a family project.

The actress from Running Point said she’d be thrilled to appear in a big Hollywood movie with her family, including her mother, Goldie Hawn, and stepfather, Kurt Russell.

Kate jokingly admitted that working with her family members “could be a disaster,” but in an interview with TopMob News, she also expressed deep “respect for every actor in our family.”

She explained that she and her mom were discussing how quickly life passes. She wants to fully appreciate every moment, especially the time she spends with her family and parents, and be truly present during those times.

Kate Hudson, who previously collaborated with Kurt on the 2016 movie Deepwater Horizon, expressed her desire to work with her mother, Goldie Hawn. The 46-year-old actress, a mother to Ryder (22, with ex-husband Chris Robinson), Bingham (14, with ex Matt Bellamy), and Rani (7, with fiancé Danny Fujikawa), said it would be a dream come true if she had the chance.

Though the family has no projects in the works, Kate is leaving the opportunity up to fate.

“It probably will never happen but we’ll see,” she said, “put it out there.” 

She jokingly added, “It would be like Arrested Development.”

Although she hasn’t worked on a project with her famous family yet, the actress from How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days shared how much she appreciates their support in her acting career.

Goldie Hawn attended the 2026 Oscars with her daughter, Kate Hudson, who was nominated for Best Actress for her performance in Song Sung Blue. Goldie is a mother to two sons as well: 49-year-old Oliver Hudson (with ex-husband Bill Hudson) and 39-year-old Wyatt Russell (with Kurt Russell). Kurt Russell also has a 46-year-old son, Boston Russell, with his ex-wife, Season Hubley.

She described a wonderful evening spent with her closest family – her son Ryder, her parents, and her partner, whom she affectionately referred to as her husband. It was a truly special occasion.

The Bride Wars star added, “It’s really amazing to share those moments with your family.”

You know, growing up with a family involved in the entertainment industry definitely has its perks. For me, it meant having an automatic support system who just get what it’s like – the ups, the downs, everything. It’s such a relief having people who truly understand this lifestyle!

She explained that having a family involved in the industry gave her a unique understanding and appreciation for it. Growing up with that background provided a level of familiarity and recognition that someone without that experience wouldn’t have.

Oh my gosh, Goldie was married to Gus Trikonis, one of the Jets from West Side Story – can you believe it?! It was back in 1969, so dreamy! They sadly grew apart by 1973, but she didn’t actually get a divorce right away. She waited until she was engaged to Bill Hudson from the Hudson Brothers – I was obsessed with that band! – around the very end of 1975. It was such a whirlwind!

Goldie Hawn married Bill Hudson on July 3, 1976, following her divorce. They had two children, Oliver Hudson and Kate Hudson, before separating in 1980 and eventually divorcing in 1982.

In 2015, Oliver publicly wished his father, Bill, a Happy Father’s Day with an old childhood photo featuring both Bill and Kate, but his caption read, “Happy abandonment day…” Bill responded to the post in an interview with the Daily Mail, stating he no longer considered Oliver or Kate his children and requested they stop using the family surname, Hudson. He described Oliver’s post as a deliberate and hurtful attack, and declared he had cut both of them out of his life.

Oliver revealed on Watch What Happens Live that the public disagreement actually led to a conversation, and he reconnected with Bill after not speaking for twelve years.

In an April 2024 interview on CBS Sunday Morning, Kate shared that while she and Bill didn’t have a close relationship, things were beginning to improve.

She continued, saying she wasn’t sure what would happen, but wasn’t expecting anything specific from her father. Her main hope was simply for his happiness.

Bill has three children: Zachary and Emily with his late ex-wife, Cindy Williams, whom he was married to from 1982 to 2000, and Lalania, born in 2006 to him and Caroline Graham.

Goldie and Bill’s first child was born Sept. 7, 1976.

Similar to his sister Kate, Oliver was raised by their mother and her partner, Kurt Russell. However, in a 2018 interview on Larry King Live, he mentioned that he and Bill were making an effort to stay in touch.

I shared something funny, but with a dark edge, online, and it unexpectedly brought my partner and me closer together. We’ve been in touch ever since.

But Kurt will forever be his dad.

I was really surprised to learn back in December 2025 that the actor from Miracle isn’t my biological father, but honestly, it didn’t change how I feel about him. Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn first connected and fell in love in 1983 while filming the movie Swing Shift, a romantic story set during World War II. They’ve been a couple ever since, and have chosen not to get married.

Kurt, who was married to actress Season Hubley from 1979 to 1983, revealed on TODAY in 2020 that he and his current partner had both experienced divorce.

Goldie explained that marriage ‘just didn’t suit either of us.’ While she doesn’t rule out getting married in the future, she felt it wasn’t necessary for them. She believes marriage has become more about legal and financial matters than about love and commitment.

Kate and Oliver, who consider Kurt a father figure and affectionately call him “Pa,” are also very close to Kurt and Season’s son, Boston Russell, who was born on February 16, 1980.

Kate recalled a confusing time when her mother started dating someone new. On her podcast, Sibling Revelry, she explained that as a child, she wondered if this man would become her father and his son her brother. It was a lot for her to process at such a young age, as it meant her families were starting to merge.

Boston generally keeps to himself, but he does support his family publicly, like when he attended the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in 2017 honoring Kurt and Goldie.

Kurt and Goldie’s only child together, Wyatt Russell, was born July 10, 1986.

The actor from Thunderbolts was a professional hockey player in Europe, but he had to stop playing in 2010 due to injuries. He then began working full-time in his family’s business.

Wyatt married Meredith Hagner in 2019, and they have two sons: Buddy Prine, who was born in March 2021, and Boone Joseph, born on February 13, 2024.

Becoming a parent gave Wyatt a new understanding of his own parents, he shared with People magazine in April 2025. He realized they simply wanted him to be happy and live a good life, and now that’s all he wants for his own children. He believes his parents likely feel the same way about him.

Kate shared on Late Night With Seth Meyers in 2024 that her younger son invests in stocks himself. She explained he stays informed about the market, understands different types of investments, and is surprisingly knowledgeable. She added that it will be fascinating to see how he develops as he gets older.

Kate began dating musician Danny Fujikawa in 2016. They had a daughter, Rani, on October 2, 2018. Danny, who had been a friend for years, proposed in 2021.

In a 2022 interview with the Sunday Times, Kate shared her hopes for the future with her partner, saying, “I hope we get married!” While they weren’t rushing into it, she expressed excitement about the possibility. She explained that she already had a lot on her plate and didn’t want the added stress of wedding planning right now. Kate also revealed a heartwarming moment from the night before, when her partner was looking at old videos of himself and their daughter, Rani, which she found incredibly touching. She described him as a fantastic dad and stepdad.

Kate Hudson, the actress from Almost Famous, said she feels more focused and engaged as a mother now that her son, Ryder, is grown. She was 24 years old when Ryder was born.

I share a really unique bond with Ryder because we’ve known each other since he was a baby. Becoming a mother to him coincided with a huge period of personal growth for me, and it was a deliberate choice. It felt natural for us to have a child, and we were both very close. I took him with me everywhere and didn’t start leaving him for extended periods until he was two years old. He didn’t even begin school until he was ten, which is different from how I approached things with my other children – I’m generally more structured with them.

Outside of school, Rani travels the world with her family. In 2024, she even appeared in a SKIMS holiday ad campaign alongside her parents, brothers, her uncle Oliver’s family, and her grandmother, Goldie.
