Kim Kardashian Shares How Caitlyn Jenner’s Transition Influenced KUWTK

The actress, known for her role in All’s Fair, discussed her family’s twenty-season success with Keeping Up With the Kardashians. She believes Caitlyn Jenner’s public transition in 2015, and the public’s fascination with it, was a key factor in the show’s continued popularity in its later seasons.

Kim recently shared on The Graham Norton Show that when they filmed the first episode of the show, they had no idea it would become such a long-running success. Twenty years later, it’s still on the air! Kim explained that the show often seems to develop its own storylines, jokingly recalling how a simple idea – their stepdad turning into a woman – sparked enough material for two more seasons.

Kim Kardashian recently discussed a difficult time for her family. When asked by Alex Cooper what the hardest public challenge they faced was, she talked about her stepfather’s gender transition. This isn’t the first time she’s opened up about this experience recently.

She explained on the October 15th episode of Call Her Daddy that she believes her mother struggled with the situation. She compared Kendall and Kylie Jenner’s experience to losing a parent, noting that Caitlyn Jenner wasn’t very communicative about her transition and revealed it suddenly. This led to a lot of confusing feelings for the family.

The Kardashian family admitted they weren’t sure how to handle the situation, particularly because it was happening so publicly.

As someone who’s navigated a lot of family dynamics in the public eye, I can tell you, it was really tough seeing Khloe so upset. We were all processing a lot at the time – learning new things, trying to be there for our younger sisters, and supporting our mom through her divorce. It was a delicate situation, and we were all careful about what we said, wanting to avoid anything insensitive or accidentally asking the wrong questions. We were all learning together, really.

Honestly, we were completely new to this! We really had to learn as we went, and the amazing part is, we documented the whole journey on camera. It was a total learning experience, and we shared it all!

Oh my gosh, Kim told me all about it, and it just breaks my heart! Khloe was seriously so upset, you guys. They’re all finding out about everything as it happens, and they’re trying so hard to be there for Kendall and Kylie, and for their mom with the divorce. It’s like, they want to be supportive but they’re also walking on eggshells, afraid of saying the wrong thing or even asking what anything means! They’re just trying to navigate it all, and it’s so stressful to watch!

We were completely new to the situation, so we learned as we went, and everything was filmed.
