A WWE Hall of Famer is fighting for his life.
Wrestling legend Abdullah the Butcher (born Lawrence Shreeve) is currently in the hospital, as reported by his booking agent, Steve Stasiak.
Steve announced on Facebook on October 23rd that 84-year-old wrestler, known affectionately as the ‘Wild Man from the Sudan,’ is hospitalized and facing health problems. He asked fans, friends, and the wrestling community to send their support and positive energy his way.
He also highlighted Abdullah as a truly legendary and intimidating wrestler, someone who significantly impacted the sport with his memorable performances across the globe, from Japan and Puerto Rico to Georgia and many other places.
Details about Abdullah’s illness haven’t been released. He was previously hospitalized in Georgia over a year ago for stomach problems. A fundraising campaign created earlier this year also mentioned he needed hip replacement surgery.
Abdullah started wrestling as a teenager in Canada during the 1950s. Though he was never officially part of the WWE, he was honored with induction into their Hall of Fame in 2011. He also wrestled professionally in Japan throughout the 1970s and 80s.

Throughout his career, he faced off against some of the most famous wrestlers in history.
According to his WWE profile, Abdullah would participate if the pay was good. He famously wrestled Andre the Giant in front of a crowd of 25,000 people in Puerto Rico and also faced off against Hulk Hogan in Japan.
The list of Abdullah the Butcher’s famous rivals is incredibly impressive – including legends like The Sheik, Harley Race, Bobo Brazil, Jack Brisco, Stan Hansen, and Giant Baba. All of these wrestlers would agree on one thing: a champion wasn’t truly tested until they faced Abdullah the Butcher in the ring.
