Viewership is up for the sci-fi series as it prepares to launch its second season on Apple TV. The show is connected to Legendary’s well-known Monsterverse franchise.
According to FlixPatrol, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is currently ranking 9th globally on Apple TV. Its popularity varies quite a bit by country, reaching as high as 2nd place in Thailand and Fiji. In the U.S., the series is currently 8th overall in the Top 10 on Amazon Channels.
Chris Black and Matt Fraction developed the TV series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The first season, with 10 episodes, was released on Apple TV+ between November 2023 and January 2024.
I’ve been following the Monsterverse for a while now, and it covers a lot of ground over the years! The main story we’re focused on right now takes place in 2015, just after the epic fight between Godzilla and those other massive creatures – the Titans – that completely destroyed San Francisco. You really see the aftermath of that battle in the first Godzilla movie from 2014, which sets everything up.
Monarch Season 2 Adds Kong to the Mix
Work on the second season of Monarch began in April 2024, and filming took place from July 2024 to February 2025. Kong, who briefly appeared at the end of Season 1, will have a major role in Season 2, joining Godzilla and a new monster called Titan X.
Apple and Legendary are keeping details about Titan X under wraps, but they’ve described it as more than just a large creature – it’s a catastrophic event come to life. They say its enormous, glowing appearance emerging from the ocean is breathtaking and awe-inspiring.
The newly discovered creature is at the heart of the enigma – an age-old power rising from the depths. Its intentions are unknown, its strength is unparalleled, and it inspires both wonder and fear, according to official sources.
The next installment will feature returning stars Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Joe Tippett, and Anders Holm. Joining them are new cast members Takehiro Hira, Amber Midthunder, Curtiss Cook, Cliff Curtis, Dominique Tipper, and Camilo Jiménez Varón.
Season 2 of Monarch will keep fans of the Monsterverse entertained until the next movie, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, comes out next year.
Grant Sputore directed Supernova, which has been undergoing post-production since late 2025 and is scheduled for release in March 2027. The film will introduce a largely new group of human characters alongside the Titans.
So far, Dan Stevens is the only actor confirmed to return for another film. He’ll be playing Trapper Beasley, the same character he portrayed in The New Empire. Joining him will be Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell, Matthew Modine, Delroy Lindo, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Sam Neill.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 premieres on Apple TV on Feb. 27.
