New information reveals that Kyle Busch experienced health issues in the weeks leading up to his sudden death.
According to the Associated Press, the 41-year-old man who died on May 21st had been struggling with health issues. He was found unconscious in a racing simulator while in North Carolina and was hospitalized before his death.
According to a death certificate obtained by Us Weekly, Busch experienced a series of health issues lasting several days to weeks, beginning with pneumonia that ultimately developed into sepsis in his final 24 hours.
Busch experienced a severe immune reaction that caused blood clots, damaging his internal organs. The medical examiner identified this as intravascular coagulation. This was followed by hemorrhagic shock, a life-threatening condition caused by excessive bleeding, according to the University of Utah.
More details about Kurt Busch’s health have been released, following a previous statement from his family—including his wife, Samantha Busch, and their children, Brexton, 11, and Lennix, 4—that clarified the cause of his death.
In a statement to NBC News on May 23rd, the Busch family explained that a serious bout of pneumonia quickly developed into sepsis, leading to a series of severe complications. They asked for privacy and understanding as they cope with this challenging situation.
The NASCAR community is deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of Busch. Friends and fellow drivers, including Dale Earnhardt Jr., have shared tributes celebrating his life and career.
Earnhardt recently shared on the Dale Jr. Download podcast that he’s come to appreciate learning about Kyle as a person. While many know Kyle as a racer and public figure, Earnhardt enjoyed getting to know him on a more personal level, beyond the racetrack and media appearances.

Driver Daniel Suarez, having won the Coca-Cola 600 shortly after the passing of Kyle Busch’s father, dedicated his victory to his mentor of over a decade, sharing heartfelt memories of him.
Suarez celebrated his win on May 24, dedicating it to Kyle after a difficult week. He explained in a post-race interview, ‘Every win feels good, but this one means something extra because of Kyle. It’s for him. He was a truly special person.’

I was so thrilled to see Kyle win the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Echo Park Speedway back in February 2026! It was amazing to watch, and even better to see him celebrating in Victory Lane with Samantha, Brexton, and Lennix. What a moment for all of them!

Kyle shared a tender moment with his youngest at the NASCAR Cup Series Food City Dirt Race in 2023.

Kyle, Samantha, and Brexton went to the stadium to watch the Las Vegas Raiders play the Denver Broncos.

The quartet had recently enjoyed a snowy family vacation.

Kyle and Samantha always made sure Brexton was with them for all of their important celebrations.

Kyle enjoyed creating special moments with his wife, Samantha, and their son, Brexton, whether they were at the Texas racetrack or back home in Las Vegas.

Samantha shared a sweet Valentine’s Day message on Instagram, calling her partner her ‘forever valentine.’ She expressed her gratitude for their ability to bring joy and adventure into her life, finishing with a heartfelt ‘I love you!’

Samantha celebrated her son Brexton’s successful racing season at Millbridge Speedway with a heartfelt Instagram post. She expressed immense pride in his growth and congratulated him on winning his first Saturday Night Series Championship, excitedly anticipating his future accomplishments.

Samantha and Kyle opted for cute matching leather jackets.

Kyle shared on Instagram about enjoying a fun play date at the @bundleofjoyfund and finding some amazing pumpkins with @samanthabusch and @brextonbusch. He called them ‘the most perfect pumpkins in the patch!’

Kyle and Samantha Busch took a trip to Las Vegas, which Kyle celebrated with an Instagram post saying he’d “hit the jackpot” with her.

A newborn Brexton joined his mom and dad on stage at the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards.

Life wasn’t all work and no play for Kyle. In fact, he loved vacations with his family.

Kyle and his family celebrate one of his many NASCAR wins with a trip Disney World.

Kyle shared a flirty message on Instagram, addressing someone as “pretty baby” while enjoying a romantic dinner at La Belle Helene Restaurant in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Oh my gosh, when Kyle absolutely crushed it at the Pit Boss 250 in Austin, Texas back in May 2021, it was the most amazing thing ever! Seeing him win was incredible, but the best part? His sweet wife, Samantha, and their little boy, Brexton, got to join him in Victory Lane to celebrate! It was such a perfect family moment, I seriously cried!
