I just got the scoop from CinemaCon about the next Superman movie, currently titled ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ and things are sounding really interesting. Filming is slated to start soon, with a summer release planned for next year. Get ready to see Brainiac make his big screen debut! But here’s the kicker: it looks like Superman and Lex Luthor will actually have to team up to take on an even bigger bad. After their clash in the last film, seeing them forced to cooperate is a really clever move and I’m definitely intrigued to see how that plays out.
Peter Safran shares when exactly Man of Tomorrow will start production
Peter Safran announced at CinemaCon that filming for “Man of Tomorrow” begins next week, as reported by Cosmic Book News. Although it was previously known the production would start sometime in April, Safran’s statement provides a specific date. Rachel Brosnahan, returning as Lois Lane, also shared on the “Hot Ones” show that she’ll be starting filming soon.
Filming is expected to begin at Trilith Studios in Fayetteville, Georgia, and will also occur in Macon, Georgia, potentially boosting the local economy (according to 13WMaz). Locations in Cincinnati and the United Kingdom are also planned. James Gunn shared on Instagram that he’d already started creating storyboards for the crew as early as November 2025, indicating pre-production was underway.
The new Superman movie, “Man of Tomorrow,” will be released in theaters on July 9, 2027. James Gunn, who also directed the previous film, wrote and directed this one as well. In an interview with Howard Stern, Gunn revealed that the story centers on Superman (David Corenswet) and Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) teaming up against a major enemy, but it’s not a simple story. He explained that Lex Luthor will be just as important to the plot as Superman.
Along with David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult, several other actors are expected to return for the new Superman movie. Skyler Gisondo will be back as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher.
The cast now includes Aaron Pierre, who will return as John Stewart (Green Lantern) from the upcoming HBO series Lanterns (scheduled for August 2026), and Lars Eidinger, playing Brainiac. Recent reports from The Hollywood Reporter suggest Adria Arjona has also joined the film in an undisclosed role, with speculation pointing to the character Maxima, though James Gunn hasn’t officially confirmed this.
