A new season of the anime series, based on the popular action video game, is coming to Netflix soon. The first season was a big hit for the streaming service, with lots of people watching and critics giving it positive reviews.
Devil May Cry Season 2 arrives on Netflix next month
The second season of Devil May Cry will start streaming on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The streaming service revealed the date with a short preview last month. Like the first season, there will be eight episodes, and all of them will be available to watch at once.
This series is inspired by characters created by Hideki Kamiya for the popular Capcom video game of the same name. Adi Shankar, who previously worked on ‘Castlevania’ and ‘Castlevania: Nocturne’, is overseeing the show. Alex Larsen wrote and developed the series alongside him.
Shankar recently told IGN that the upcoming second season will be significantly larger in scope and scale compared to the first. He described the difference as being similar to the jump between the movies Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. He also hinted at a much different and more impactful tone for the new season, suggesting it will be more emotionally resonant.
The series centers around Dante, a stylish demon hunter who is half-demon himself, being the son of the legendary dark knight Sparda. In the first season, Dante accepts a risky mission to protect the world from supernatural dangers. He teams up with Mary to stop White Rabbit, who is determined to use the powerful Sword of Sparda to destroy the boundary between Hell and Earth.
The first season concluded with a shocking twist: after Dante and Lady triumphed over the White Rabbit, Mary unexpectedly imprisoned Dante in a Darkcom cryo-prison when he asked her to help him find his missing twin brother, Vergil. Simultaneously, Baines exploited a portal to launch an invasion of Hell.
The first season of Devil May Cry quickly attracted 5.3 million viewers on Crunchyroll in just three days. It’s also been well-received by critics, earning a 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
