Laura Clery is on the mend.
The comedian shared that she is recovering after a 600-pound refrigerator fell on her while she was home with her and ex-husband Stephen Hilton‘s kids Alfie, 7, and Poppy, 5.
Laura shared a frightening experience on Instagram, describing the scariest night of her life as a single mom. She was getting ready for bed when her heavy refrigerator – weighing 600 pounds – suddenly fell onto her, trapping her against the kitchen counter. She was unable to move or breathe properly and couldn’t free herself.
She said she started to lose consciousness and wasn’t sure she would survive. Luckily, her phone was within reach and she could call 911. She was also incredibly relieved it hadn’t fallen on her children. It took three firefighters to free her from under it.
In a follow-up video of herself in the ambulance, she shared insight into the rescue.
In a recent social media post, she described how rescuers arrived incredibly quickly, even breaking down her garage door to reach her. Three of them managed to lift a 600-pound refrigerator off of her and rushed her to the hospital before her condition worsened. Thankfully, she suffered no broken bones, her children are safe, and she’s able to walk – she feels very fortunate.
As for what led to the terrifying incident? Her son—whom she previously shared was diagnosed with autism—climbed the home appliance.
Laura described a small movement that startled her, saying it made her feel uneasy. In a post on May 21st, she explained she quickly went to correct it, hoping to fix the issue and continue her day feeling capable and in charge.

As soon as I touched it, it fell right on top of me,” she said. “It wasn’t a slow fall – I couldn’t react or get out of the way. It just came down, and the full weight of it knocked me backwards into the kitchen island, trapping my lower back and hips. I was completely stuck. I tried to push it off, but it wouldn’t move at all. It felt like trying to push against a building.
As she experienced the excruciating pain, she recalled the thoughts running through her mind.
“Very quickly, I realized, ‘Oh, this is actually bad,'” she wrote. Like, not ‘this will be a funny story later’ bad. This is ‘I might genuinely be in danger right now’ bad. I’m just there, pinned under a fridge, thinking this is the dumbest way anyone has ever died.”

Jamie Lynn Spears‘ then-8-year-old daughter Maddie Aldridge was driving an ATV in February 2017 when she accidentally flipped it into a pond near their Louisiana home, leaving her submerged under water for minutes.
Jamie Lynn remembered thinking her daughter had died when she was pulled from the water and first responders took over, as she shared on the 2020 Maria Menounos Better Together podcast. She said they believed they had lost her.
Although the extent of her injuries was initially unclear, Maddie regained consciousness and was able to speak within two days. She was back to her usual activities just a few weeks later.

An accident on the set of the upcoming action comedy Bride Hard, starring Rebel Wilson and Anna Camp, left Wilson with a split nose. During a fight scene on her last day of filming, she was accidentally hit in the face with a prop gun. “It was just a freak accident,” Wilson told Access Hollywood in June 2025. “My nose split open, so I had to leave the set. It was my last night of shooting, and I just thought, ‘How unlucky can I be?'”
She described being terrified when she was seriously injured in 2023, explaining that she was covered in blood. An ambulance was called, and a plastic surgeon had to be brought in to repair the damage. Thankfully, the surgery was successful, and the injury is now barely noticeable.

Jimmy Fallon, the host of The Tonight Show, had a scary accident at home. He tripped and fell, and while trying to grab the counter to break his fall, his ring got caught, nearly tearing off his finger.
Doctors hospitalized him for ten days to try and save his finger after a severe injury—a “ring avulsion,” where the ring caused significant damage. They worked to prevent amputation.

In June 2025, Zane Wach, a seasoned hiker and multi-sport athlete who competes in running, swimming, and triathlons, almost succumbed to altitude sickness while hiking Mount Whitney in California with his father, Ryan Wach.
“He started to experience some hallucinations,” Ryan explained to to the SFGATE of the 14-year-old. “He knew he was hallucinating. He said he saw things like snowmen and Kermit the Frog.”
Ryan had to repeatedly stop his teenage son from walking off the cliff as they hiked back down the trail. The father explained that his son seemed to be experiencing a break from reality, and they still haven’t figured out why. Ryan suspects it was a mix of factors, including tiredness, lack of sleep, dehydration, and lingering effects from altitude sickness.
After two failed attempts to reach Zane, Ryan watched helplessly as his son fell about 120 feet from the cliff. It took six hours for a search and rescue helicopter from Inyo County to arrive and transport Zane to the hospital in Lone Pine. There, he was stabilized before being moved to a specialized trauma center for children in Las Vegas. Doctors put Zane into a medically induced coma, but thankfully, he eventually started breathing independently.
Ryan described his teenager’s recovery from a serious accident – including a head injury, broken finger and ankle, and fractured pelvis – as a long journey. He said, ‘We’re still going through it, but ultimately, he’s going to survive.’
On New Years’ Day 2023, Avengers star Jeremy Renner was using a snowplow to tow a truck that was stuck in the snow on the driveway of his Lake Tahoe home. But after exiting the machine, he was pulled under while trying to stop the plow from hitting his nephew and suffered 38 broken bones.
In his 2025 memoir, My Next Breath, he described lying on the ice and feeling his heart rate slow. He wrote that, without his daughter, sisters, friends, or parents knowing, he simply grew tired. After manually breathing for about thirty minutes – a strenuous effort he compared to doing ten to twenty push-ups every minute for half an hour – he passed away.
Despite suffering broken bones, significant blood loss, and the risk of dangerously low body temperature, he believed he had died. He recalled that paramedics found his heart rate had dropped to just 18 beats per minute, a level they considered fatal.

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this. I’ve been following Emilie and Brady Kiser on TikTok for ages, and it’s just… heartbreaking. Their sweet little Trigg, their three-year-old son, had a terrible accident back in May of 2025. He fell into their pool at their home in Arizona! I was absolutely devastated when I heard. It’s just… unimaginable what they must have gone through.
On May 12th, Chandler Police responded to a home after a child was found unconscious in a backyard pool. Police and firefighters performed CPR at the scene before transporting the child, later identified as Trigg, to Chandler Regional Hospital. Sadly, the toddler passed away six days later.
Emilie filed a lawsuit attempting to prevent Maricopa County from releasing details about his death. The lawsuit explained that Emilie is focused on caring for her two-month-old son, Theodore, and is struggling emotionally every day.

Dr. Cara Hodgson described a family trip to Thailand as “the worst 10 days” of her life after a December 2023 accident where she was shocked by power lines. She lost consciousness and was taken to the emergency room, then spent the following week and a half in and out of hospitals working to recover and save her life, as she shared in an Instagram post on New Year’s Day. She expressed gratitude to still be alive.
As such, the orthodonist found a new reason to smile through the pain. The experience “taught me something I think we all need to be reminded of when we get caught up in the little things: What a precious privilege it is to be alive,” Cara shared, “being able to breathe, eat, talk, move your body, is something grand and something to be celebrated.”

Tragedy occured when Brazilian tourist Juliana Marins was hiking on Mount Rinjani, an active volcano in Indonesia, in June 2025. After she fell off a cliff (but not into the volcano’s crater), a team of 48 search and rescuers spent four days “hindered by adverse weather, terrain and visibility conditions in the region,” the Brazilian government shared in a statement, and eventually located Juliana’s body.
Juliana Marins has passed away, her family announced on Instagram. The rescue team reached her location today, but sadly, she did not survive. The family expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of prayers, messages, and support they received.

In 2015, actress Tori Spelling, known for her role on Beverly Hills, 90210, accidentally burned her right arm on a hot grill while at an Easter brunch at Benihana. She needed skin grafts to recover and later decided to file a lawsuit against the restaurant.
She revealed on her 2024 podcast, 9021OMG (co-hosted with Jennie Garth), that she received a skin graft from her thigh to cover a severe burn on her arm. She joked that it’s not every day someone can say they’re ‘wearing their thigh on their arm,’ but that was the reality for her.

Comedian Tony Knight tragically died in June 2024 at the Rock&Cars festival in France when he was struck by falling tree branches. He was 54 years old and enjoying life, according to Joanne Allen, the sister of his partner, Hayley Wright. Allen described Knight as fit, healthy, happy, and full of life, noting his charisma, humor, and passion.
He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Haley shared on Instagram that he was incredibly talented and could turn his hand to anything. He was a wonderful friend and a devoted dog owner, but above all, he was her everything, and his loss has left a void that will never be filled.

A company celebration turned catastrophic in January 2024. To kickoff the planned 25th anniversary festivities for Chicago-based software company Vistex, CEO Sanjay Shah and president Vishwanath Raju Datla were suspended in an iron cage meant to be lowered 20 feet onto a dais at the India-based party, a company official told The Times of India. Instead, two wires snapped, causing the men to crash onto the concrete stage.
Sanjay, age 56, died at the hospital after the accident, according to reports. Vishwanath, 52, suffered a serious head injury and sadly died several months afterward.

In a 2022 Instagram video with UNICEF, Orlando Bloom revealed that he broke his back after falling three stories from a window when he was 19. He and some friends were attempting to reach a rooftop terrace, but the drainpipe he was climbing gave way. Luckily, he said, he survived with his spinal cord intact, though he did break several vertebrae.
He explained that doctors initially told him, during his hospital stay, he might never walk again. This was the start of a difficult process of realizing how certain lifelong patterns had contributed to a series of accidents, ultimately culminating in a broken back and a life-threatening situation.
Leaving the hospital in a back brace with heaps of physical and emotional pain, “I started partying straight away—with the back brace on,” he shared with GQ in 2005. “It took me a couple of months to realize this was my life, and I didn’t want to mess it up.”
He said the experience completely changed his perspective on life. He didn’t fully appreciate things until he faced the possibility of losing them. He used to be a reckless driver and motorcyclist, always pushing limits, not for show, but because he enjoyed the thrill of risk. Now, though, he’s much more relaxed.
