Latest news (March 23, 2026, 6:45 PM): Even long-time Capcom staff are surprised by the controversial new storyline involving Alex.
Street Fighter 6 introduces a new downloadable character who is now portrayed as Patricia’s husband. Many players previously thought of Patricia as his adopted sister. She is also expecting a child.
Hidetoshi Ishizawa, the planner for Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, shared his thoughts on the surprising news via X (formerly Twitter).
He wrote, as Google Translated:
I hadn’t watched it yet, so I looked at spoilers online to find out what happened. I was surprised by the ending – I thought it would focus on a sibling relationship, but it turned out they became a couple through a childhood friend storyline. It was a pretty unexpected twist!
Honestly, I’m really curious to see if Capcom will ever acknowledge this issue, or just pretend it never existed. As a player, it’s frustrating, and I’m hoping they’ll at least talk about it.
Alex, the main character from Street Fighter 3: New Generation, has been added to Street Fighter 6, and people are talking about more than just how he plays the game.
Recent surprising changes to the backstory of a popular Capcom character have caused a stir among fans. It appears the character, known for their face paint and wrestling skills, might be involved in a potentially inappropriate relationship with a family member—though the details are complicated.
Look, the evidence mounting against Alex is somewhat comprehensive but crucially not conclusive.
In short, Alex’s story in Street Fighter 3 centers around revenge. He’s determined to get even for what happened to his adoptive father, Tom.
It’s unclear if Tom is Alex’s actual father or simply a mentor, but Alex describes him as a father figure in World Tour.
The issue is that Tom’s daughter, Patricia, has always been seen more like a little sister to Alex.
Okay, so in Street Fighter 6’s story mode, it’s pretty wild – Luke and Kimberly are actually married and expecting a baby! And get this – it turns out Luke is related to Alex’s mom, making him family to Patricia somehow. It’s not definitely a blood relation, but they’re definitely connected!
Ultimately, everything surrounding this is strange and surprising. The game Street Fighter 6 includes artwork depicting Alex holding Patricia as an infant, which is unsettling even if you disregard the more disturbing interpretations.
It seems Capcom was aiming for a touching story, but when you look closely, it just feels a little strange.
Street Fighter isn’t typically praised for its storyline, and that’s understandable. However, given the numerous comics and novels created around the game, it seems odd to assume fans wouldn’t be interested in the narrative at all.
It’s possible the story might be changed later on, but Capcom definitely needs to address this plot issue.
