Marvel & DC Will Officially Start Filming 3 of Their Biggest Movies of All Time In 2026

Big superhero movies are coming! Marvel and DC are both planning to start filming three major films in 2026. They’re already working on future projects for 2027, including highly anticipated titles like Supergirl, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Clayface, and Avengers: Doomsday. James Gunn from DC Studios and Kevin Feige from Marvel Studios are leading the charge to bring these massive releases to audiences next year.

James Gunn is carefully building his new DC Universe from scratch, focusing on characters like Superman, Supergirl, and several Green Lanterns as central figures. He’s also overseeing a separate, creatively independent universe led by Matt Reeves.

Currently, Feige is focused on Marvel’s next two Avengers movies, which are crucial for regaining the huge popularity and box office success the MCU once enjoyed worldwide.

2026 and 2027 are crucial years for each movie studio. They’re both working hard to attract viewers again and regain a strong position in a rapidly changing entertainment world.

Three upcoming movies, all scheduled to start filming this year and expected in 2027, are generating the most excitement among fans.

Biggest MCU & DC Movies Filming in 2026

Man of Tomorrow

The next chapter in the Superman story, titled Man of Tomorrow, is set to begin filming next week in Atlanta, Georgia. DC Studios’ Peter Safran announced at CinemaCon 2026 that this film will be the first major comic book movie released by the studio, with a planned release date of July 9, 2027.

James Gunn wrote and directed the new film, bringing back David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult joins the cast as Lex Luthor, and in a surprising turn of events, Superman and Lex will have to work together to defeat the villain Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger.

The movie boasts a strong cast, bringing back Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen. Aaron Pierre will also return as John Stewart, a role he previously played in the HBO show Lanterns.

Adria Arjona has joined the cast, and reports suggest she might play Maxima, a character from the Superman comics known as an alien queen who has sometimes been a villain and sometimes a romantic partner.

Avengers: Secret Wars

Production on Avengers: Secret Wars, the concluding film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga, is expected to begin later this year, but the specific start date is still being determined.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, filming for Secret Wars will start this summer. The Russo brothers are currently finishing up work on Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled to come out on December 18th.

Marvel’s Secret Wars is currently planned to begin filming in August. This timing is intentional, allowing the Russo Brothers and Marvel Studios to finish any needed reshoots and editing for Doomsday first. Like Doomsday, filming will take place at Pinewood Studios in England.

Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Sadie Sink, and a huge cast of characters from different universes will star in Avengers: Secret Wars, which is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 17, 2027.

The Batman 2

After a long development process, The Batman 2 is finally moving forward with production. According to Deadline, filming will begin in June 2026 at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, along with locations in Liverpool and Glasgow, Scotland.

Matt Reeves directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Mattson Tomlin, finishing it in June 2025. Robert Pattinson has described the script as “extraordinary” and hinted that the movie will be significantly different from previous versions, promising a bold and ambitious approach.

I’m so excited! Robert Pattinson is back as Batman, and it’s awesome to see him continuing as Bruce Wayne. Plus, Jeffrey Wright is returning as Jim Gordon, and Colin Farrell is going to be The Penguin again – he was brilliant! Andy Serkis will be back as Alfred, which is fantastic, and rumor has it Barry Keoghan might be reprising his role as the Joker too! I can’t wait!

Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan, both known for their roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, are joining the cast. They’ll be taking over roles previously played by Zoe Kravitz, who won’t be back when the film is released on October 1, 2027.
