It’s easy to see why X-Men fans often consider Wolverine the team’s most dangerous member. Known for his intense anger and animalistic nature, Logan can defeat opponents with a single slash of his claws. He’s also a highly trained spy and former assassin, making him a silent and deadly threat. However, the latest issue of Cyclops #3 (from Alex Paknadel, Fernando Sifuentes, and Roge Antonio) argues that Wolverine isn’t actually the most dangerous X-Man.
Cyclops’s quinjet crashed in British Columbia, and he’s struggling to survive in a dangerous wilderness while being pursued by Donald Pierce and a new team of cyborg Reavers. To make things even worse, his visor is broken, meaning he’s effectively blind – opening his eyes would unleash uncontrollable, destructive energy. Despite all this, Cyclops still manages to hold an advantage over enemies specifically designed and trained to hunt mutants like him.
Cyclops’ Optic Blasts Make Him a Powerhouse

Today’s audiences easily accept that Cyclops is incredibly accurate with his optic blasts. He’s a highly skilled marksman, able to calculate angles perfectly, even allowing him to bounce shots off surfaces. If Cyclops removes his visor or glasses, he loses that precise control. When he does open his eyes without them, it’s to unleash the raw, immense power of his blasts. Wolverine wasn’t exaggerating when he joked about Cyclops having a nuclear bomb in his eyes – Iron Man once calculated the energy output of those blasts to be as powerful as a nuclear reactor.
Wolverine can injure you with his claws, and Cyclops possesses the power to destroy you and everything around you. In one amazing moment, he disintegrates an enemy and blasts a massive hole through a cliff. What’s truly incredible is that Cyclops has this immense power constantly, in every battle. He tells the enemy threatening him, “I tried to handle this peacefully, the way I was raised, but you didn’t give me a choice.”
Cyclops’ Self-Confidence is the Result of His Own Training

Recent Marvel comics have shown Professor X teaching a special technique to his most trusted X-Men. This technique helps them block psychic attacks, giving Scott Summers (Cyclops) a defense against telepaths. In Cyclops #3, he demonstrates this “basic defense against psychic attacks” while rescuing a young mutant from the Reavers. The young mutant is surprised to learn she was under psychic attack, but Cyclops explains it was actually an attack from within her own mind.
I’ve always found Cyclops to be a really interesting character, especially when it comes to his internal struggles. He admits to doubting himself, but he’s figured out something brilliant: that self-doubt can actually be the attack, the thing holding you back. Professor X probably taught him how to shield against other people’s mental assaults, but Cyclops took it a step further. He uses that same technique to block out his own panic and trauma, letting him focus on the task at hand. And honestly? He explains it with this little, satisfied smile, like he’s unlocked a secret to staying strong. It’s a really cool way to see his power – not just blasting things, but mastering his own mind.
Cyclops Has Tactics, Not a Code

Cyclops is arguably the most dangerous X-Man because he’s an exceptional leader and strategist who anticipates almost any situation. He once pointed out that he doesn’t believe in having a “Plan B,” as that suggests a limited number of strategies – he prepares for far more. This tactical brilliance, along with his willingness to do whatever it takes, is clear in Cyclops #3. He’s incredibly resourceful, even finding a way to use something as unlikely as a heavily damaged Reaver to his benefit.
I’m honestly stunned by what Cyclops says here. This defeated Reaver tries to appeal to some supposed code of honor, but Scott just shuts it down, pointing out he’s thinking of Wolverine. It’s so clear Cyclops will do anything to win. He sees the bigger picture, he’s a master strategist, and he has absolutely no limits. That’s what makes him the most dangerous X-Man, in my opinion. Wolverine just goes for the kill, which is predictable, but Cyclops? He’ll turn your own weapons against you, manipulate your allies… honestly, you really don’t want to get on his bad side.
