At EVO Japan 2026, a new trailer dropped for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, a 4v4 fighting game developed by Arc System Works (known for Guilty Gear and Granblue Fantasy Vs). The game features a diverse cast of Marvel Comics characters, including some lesser-known faces who haven’t appeared in a fighting game before. While recent character announcements were fairly expected, a subtle clue suggests a surprising character might be joining the fight.
In Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, characters are organized into teams based on their stories and connections. These teams, like the “Unbreakable X-Men” and “Amazing Guardians,” each have a leader and other fighters who share a common background or purpose within the Marvel universe. For instance, Storm commands a team including Magik, Wolverine, and Danger, while Spider-Man, Captain America, Ghost Rider, and Doctor Doom each lead their own groups.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighitng Souls Reveals Fighting Avengers Team With Hulk & Black Panther

Okay, so the latest team reveal for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is the “Fighting Avengers,” and it’s headed up by Captain America, which isn’t a surprise. A lot of us figured Iron Man would be in, since he was one of the first characters they showed off when the game was announced and we’ve been able to play as him in the betas. But the cool part is they also added the Hulk and Black Panther! It’s a bit weird though, because the person playing Black Panther isn’t who I expected at all.
In this fighting game, Shuri, T’Challa’s sister, takes on the role of Black Panther instead of the traditional king. She fights with a spear and maintains the character’s quick, energetic fighting style. Hulk is also featured, and he plays as a powerful, heavy-hitting character—much like his appearance in games like Marvel vs Capcom 3. Players first saw these characters in action on a new Wakanda stage, offering a look at the technologically advanced African nation from the Marvel universe.
The Fighting Avengers trailer offered a few hints about the game’s story, showing how each new character joins the team. Shuri is taking on the role of Black Panther while her brother recovers, and Hulk is cautiously assisting the former Avengers after living in isolation in the Savage Land. A mysterious organizer is also setting up a tournament, pitting challengers against a relatively unknown Marvel villain called The Champion, who seems like a great fit for the game’s style. However, the biggest buzz came from the trailer’s ending, which hinted at which team will be revealed next.
References To Amazing Spider-Man Comics Suggests Carnage To Be On Doctor Doom’s Team

The trailer for The Fighting Avengers concludes by highlighting which leaders still haven’t assembled their teams, featuring Doctor Doom and Ghost Rider. Just before the end, a quick shot shows a distorted green screen filled with symbols and alterations. A hashtag alongside Doctor Doom and the number ‘5’ in the corner suggest that his team will be revealed next, referencing his debut in Fantastic Four #5 back in 1962.
New hints suggest Spider-Man’s eyes were deliberately scratched out, hinting that someone on Doctor Doom’s team has a grudge against the hero. Many fans predicted Doctor Doom would assemble a team of Marvel villains, potentially including one of Spider-Man’s enemies. The number “361” appears repeatedly in one corner, possibly offering a clue similar to a previous one. If we follow this pattern, the villain Carnage might be a playable character, as he first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #361 back in 1992.
Adding Carnage to the game would be a surprising move, as the villain hasn’t appeared in a fighting game before. He’s usually seen as a major threat tied to Venom, who Spider-Man had to team up with just to stand a chance against him. If the rumors are true, Carnage’s inclusion in Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls would drastically change player expectations and create a unique Doctor Doom-led team that no one would foresee.
