As a lifelong fan, I was thrilled to see Masters of the Universe return to the big screen, and it didn’t disappoint! The movie really leaned into the fantastical world we all love, and it felt like watching the cartoon come to life. They packed it with so many awesome references and nods to the original series, which was fantastic. But what really got me was that they finally corrected something that bothered fans for over forty years – they absolutely nailed it this time around!
If you stayed through the credits, you likely saw Orko from Masters of the Universe, and he looked great! He felt incredibly true to the classic cartoon, from his design to his personality. This is a welcome change from the previous Masters of the Universe movie, which replaced Orko with a different character, Gwildor, who wasn’t as popular. Thankfully, Orko is back and finally getting the attention he deserves.
Why Didn’t Orko Make It Into The First Masters of the Universe Movie?

Orko, a beloved character from the franchise, has made a brief appearance in a recent film, which fans are thrilled about. Many were disappointed when Orko wasn’t included in the 1987 movie, making this cameo a special moment for longtime followers.

The main reason Orko didn’t appear in the 1987 movie was because his original design was too difficult and expensive to create with practical effects. The film had a budget of about $22 million, and bringing Orko to life with the intended design proved too complicated. The new film was able to successfully create Orko using computer-generated imagery, which wasn’t a viable option for the earlier movie.
The movie introduced a brand new, funny character named Gwildor, played by Billy Barty, to provide comic relief. Though often tricked by Skeletor and Evil-Lyn, leading to mishaps, Gwildor is ultimately a kind character who assists He-Man and the heroes in overcoming Skeletor’s forces. He’s the keeper of the Cosmic Key, and proved popular enough to be added to the He-Man toy line after the film’s release.
Gwildor reappeared in Masters of the Universe: Revolution, alongside Orko. While both characters have been part of He-Man’s adventures, Orko has consistently been the more beloved sidekick. Now, Orko is finally getting a starring role, and if a sequel is made, he’s expected to have an even bigger part.
Masters of the Universe is in theaters now.
