Matthew Perry’s mother Suzanne Morrison has many regrets.
A major concern is the family’s reliance on Kenneth Iwamasa, who was Perry’s assistant when he died in 2023. Iwamasa later admitted to conspiring to distribute ketamine, a drug linked to the Friends star’s death.
According to a victim impact statement obtained by TopMob News on May 21st, Morrison stated that Iwamasa’s primary role was to support Perry in his struggle with addiction and help him stay sober.
Iwamasa admitted, as part of a legal agreement, that he repeatedly gave Perry ketamine, even on the day Perry died.
According to a letter written by Morrison, the individual didn’t protect Matthew; instead, they helped him use illegal drugs, even finding multiple sources for them. They injected Matthew with drugs despite having no medical training, and continued to do so repeatedly, ignoring the clear and obvious danger.
In her letter, Morrison claims Iwamasa continued to monitor her and maintain ties with Perry’s family even after his death.
She went on to explain that he would send her songs, and even drew a small map to guide her through the cemetery. Whenever he spotted a rainbow – something Matthew especially loved – he’d call her to share it.

Morrison claimed Iwamasa demanded to speak at Perry’s funeral, seemingly presenting himself as the one who had tried to help him.
Looking back, Morrison deeply regrets her role in her son’s life. She explains, “We put our faith in someone who lacked empathy, and my son suffered as a result.”
Although Morrison appreciates the investigation into her son’s death and hopes for justice, she doesn’t believe she’ll ever truly find peace.
She wrote, addressing any mother who has experienced the heartbreaking loss of a child, that nothing can ever truly ease the pain, and she believes it will stay with her forever.
Iwamasa is scheduled to be sentenced on May 27, per NBC News.

I still can’t believe it. After everything that happened to Perry, learning that Jasveen Sangha – they called her the “Ketamine Queen,” can you believe that? – actually supplied him with the drugs… it just makes me sick. And now she’s going to prison for 15 years after admitting it. Fifteen years… it doesn’t bring him back, but at least she’s paying for her part in it. It’s a small comfort, honestly.
During the sentencing hearing in April, Keith Morrison—Perry’s stepdad, who married her mother in 1981—spoke directly to her.
In a statement to the court, as reported by Today, he said he felt pity for the defendant. He explained that he didn’t harbor hatred or anger, stating the defendant was a drug dealer who had provided drugs to someone struggling with addiction.
After Matthew passed away, the journalist remarked that he possessed a unique energy unlike anyone else. He felt Matthew’s life was cut short and deserved more time to accomplish even more.

He would have been thrilled to see everyone talking about his talent, and he truly was incredibly gifted. As the Friends reunion neared, we watched the show together, and he excitedly pointed out how good he was, playfully asking if we noticed. We even rewatched scenes, analyzing his comedic timing – something we both deeply appreciated. It was magical to witness him rediscover his own brilliance. But I knew him in a complex way, too. Despite my deep love for him, he was a complicated person who caused me immense pain. Matthew Langford Perry had a profound impact on my life, and I’m incredibly grateful for everything I learned from our relationship. I also want to mention Al-Anon, a vital support system for those who love someone battling addiction. Matty, I’m relieved you’ve found peace. Sincerely, Moll-o-Rama(…fication).

We are heartbroken by the loss of Matthew. He was like family to us, not just a colleague. It’s hard to find the words to express our sadness right now, and we need time to grieve. We’ll share more when we’re able, but at this moment, our hearts are with Matthew’s family, friends, and all who loved him.

Matthew Perry was genuinely hilarious. I’ll never forget his funny, off-the-cuff observations about the craziness of Hollywood and the silliness of men trying to appear confident – especially when it hit him that we were both adults wearing makeup for our jobs. When he was sober, Matt was incredibly warm-hearted and brilliantly witty. I believe those beautiful qualities also made him especially susceptible to the struggles he faced throughout his life, a battle he fought with incredible strength – a battle that deserves recognition, even though there aren’t awards for it. He was a complex person, funny and insecure, yet surprisingly confident. He had a bright spirit but also knew darkness, and was both incredibly fortunate and deeply troubled. I want his family to know he was a kind person, not just to those he worked with, but to everyone he met. To honor his memory, let’s continue the work he cared about most: reaching out to those who struggle with similar vulnerabilities, encouraging them to seek help, and offering them the love and support they deserve. I’m so thankful I had the chance to work with him, spend time with him, and, most importantly, be his friend.

I’m incredibly grateful I got to be part of that reunion show with six amazing people. It was beautiful to see how close they all are. Getting to spend time with Matthew was a dream – he was so kind, thoughtful, and hilariously funny.

Gwyneth Paltrow shared a heartfelt memory of meeting Matthew Perry in 1993 at the Williamstown Theater Festival. They spent the summer together performing in plays, and she described him as funny, kind, and a joy to be around. They enjoyed simple pleasures like swimming, grabbing drinks at a local bar, and a memorable kiss in a grassy field. It was a magical time, just as Perry had filmed the pilot for Friends, but the show hadn’t aired yet. He was understandably anxious about whether it would be a success, and of course, it was. They remained friends for a period before losing touch, but Paltrow always cherished their encounters. She expressed deep sadness at his passing, hoping he’s finally found peace.

At her Las Vegas concert on October 28th, shortly after learning of Matthew Perry’s death, Adele paused to pay tribute to him and remember how he brightened her childhood. She shared on Instagram that Matt always had a unique sense of humor. They went on a Valentine’s Day date, and although Matt couldn’t get a reservation at a Malibu restaurant, her dad was able to secure one for him. He spent most of the night joking about how her dad’s charm had gotten them the table. They had been friends for a very long time – truly a lifetime. She knows many people are grieving, especially their close group of friends, and he will be deeply missed. She admitted she wasn’t able to find the right words, as she was still in shock and overwhelmed with sadness.
