There have been many great science fiction TV shows this century, but Battlestar Galactica is widely considered the best. Originally a reimagining of the 1978 series by Glen A. Larson, it began as a three-hour miniseries in 2003 and then ran for four seasons, plus a movie and a prequel series. Even 17 years after it ended, Battlestar Galactica still impacts sci-fi television, and now fans can stream the entire franchise thanks to its new home, available starting May 1st.
Starting May 1st, fans can watch the complete Battlestar Galactica saga on Paramount+ and Pluto TV. The deal with NBCUniversal brings Battlestar Galactica: The Miniseries, seasons 1-4 of Battlestar Galactica, and Battlestar Galactica: The Plan to both platforms. Pluto TV is free to stream, making the series accessible to a wider audience. Season 1 of Caprica will be available exclusively for Paramount+ subscribers.
Unfamiliar with Battlestar Galactica? Here’s What You Need to Know About Each Offering
Fans will soon have more ways to stream the classic series Battlestar Galactica with its arrival on Pluto TV and Paramount+. This also provides a great opportunity for new viewers to discover a truly legendary franchise. Here’s a breakdown of what each show offers.

The critically acclaimed science fiction series Battlestar Galactica returns in a stunning updated miniseries. Starring Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell, it follows the last survivors of humanity as they journey aboard the Battlestar Galactica, searching for a new home after their world is destroyed by the Cylons, a race of machines. This powerful new series is filled with incredible challenges and epic storytelling.

Battlestar Galactica (Seasons 1-4) tells the story of the last humans fleeing from the Cylons, robots who launched a surprise attack and destroyed most of humanity’s worlds. Aboard the aging warship Galactica, Commander Adama and Lieutenant Starbuck lead the survivors on a desperate search for Earth – a legendary thirteenth colony – while being relentlessly pursued by the Cylons, who can now disguise themselves as humans.

In Battlestar Galactica: The Plan, the Cylons, originally created as robotic servants, have evolved to resemble humans after a rebellion. Their initial goal was to wipe out the humans who once enslaved them. However, when the attack doesn’t completely succeed, the Cylons must adapt. The story follows two influential Cylon leaders as they independently strive to complete their mission of destruction.

Caprica takes place fifty years before Battlestar Galactica, on the planet Caprica – a world much like our own. The series focuses on two powerful families, the Graystones and the Adamas, who live very different lives until a shared tragedy unexpectedly brings them together. Their resulting conflict will shape the destiny of the twelve colonies and ultimately lead to the downfall of their civilization. The fate of the future rests on their children.
