Despite not having starred in his own movie for seventeen years – since 2008’s Iron Man – the Hulk remains a hugely popular character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s primarily appeared as a supporting character in films like Thor: Ragnarok and She-Hulk, and in the various Avengers movies. While he won’t be getting a solo film next year either, there’s a possibility things might be different for fans this time around.
Okay, so everyone’s been buzzing about the Hulk showing up in the next Spider-Man movie, Brand New Day. Honestly, it’s been a mystery how they’d even make that work, since we haven’t gotten many details about the plot. It’s become a bit of a tradition for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man films to include these big cameos from other Marvel heroes – think Tony Stark, Nick Fury, and Doctor Strange – but this one seems extra packed! Not only will we see the Hulk, but Jon Bernthal is coming back as the Punisher! And now, it looks like we’re starting to get a sense of how these characters will all connect.
Marvel’s Grey Hulk May Finally Make MCU Debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day
A recent report by online source Daniel RPK suggests that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will join forces with Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in an upcoming story arc. Their mission? To stop the Hulk. However, it won’t be the familiar green Hulk; the story will feature the Grey Hulk instead. For those familiar with Marvel history, the Hulk wasn’t always green. He originally appeared as a grey character, but Marvel editors switched to green because grey was difficult to reproduce consistently in comic printing and proved more expensive.
Many dedicated Marvel fans know the Grey Hulk was planned for Avengers: Age of Ultron. The original idea was for this angrier version of the Hulk to turn grey during a rampage caused by Wanda’s magic in South Africa. Recent rumors suggest the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day might follow this same visual change.
If the rumors about a Grey Hulk are true, there’s an interesting possibility. It seems strange that The Punisher would be hunting The Hulk, even if he were causing destruction – it’s not the type of target Frank Castle usually goes after. However, what if this Grey Hulk wasn’t a typical rampaging monster? What if he was the sophisticated gangster known as Joe Fixit, complete with a suit and hat? This version of The Hulk would not only allow Marvel to finally introduce this look in a movie, but it would also explain why The Punisher would be after him in the first place.
We’re just guessing about this, and we might be hoping for something that won’t happen. It’s important to remember that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the only other Marvel movie scheduled for 2026, coming out right before Avengers: Doomsday. Because of that, Marvel probably won’t make any major character changes, like with The Hulk, before Brand New Day. Plus, changing a character’s color for a single movie isn’t a huge deal for Marvel.
