Missed Call star talks drama’s surprise ending: “It’s much darker than you might anticipate”

The new drama, Missed Call, begins tonight on Channel 5. It stars Joanna Scanlan as a mother desperately searching for her daughter, who went missing during a school trip to France.

The story begins when Sarah’s daughter goes missing while on a school trip to Saint Michel, forcing Sarah to launch her own investigation and uncover the truth behind the disappearance.

Over five episodes, viewers will experience a dramatic journey as Sarah searches for answers and unexpectedly faces a chilly reception from the family hosting her daughter.

In an interview with TopMob about the show’s upcoming finale, actor Scanlan admitted he was surprised by how it ended, saying he hadn’t predicted the outcome while reading the script.

No one but Sherlock Holmes could have figured this out. It’s a wonderfully complex and thoroughly enjoyable story.

She continued, explaining that they had a number of intriguing suspects – people who were both fascinating and potentially involved. She cautioned, however, that there was no certainty of a positive outcome, and they might not find the answers they were hoping for.

The story is complex, and when Sarah arrives and stirs things up in the village, a lot of deeply troubling secrets and events come to light. It’s actually much more intense and unsettling than it initially seems.

Well, we’ll just have to remain strapped in for what’s to come!

Rupert Graves, in an interview with TopMob, discussed his character Jason and how he fits into the story. He explained that a key element is Sarah’s journey to uncover the truth and find her daughter when everything else falls away. When faced with a critical event, she prioritizes finding answers and her child, cutting through all distractions.

She always notices that everyone has hidden parts of themselves – secrets they keep. As she gets to know people, those secrets tend to surface, and sometimes they’re unpleasant. This story explores that duality – what people present to the world versus their hidden, more complex sides. Jason, in particular, is full of mysteries and keeps a lot to himself.

In the movie Missed Call, single mom Sarah’s life is thrown into chaos when she gets a missed call late at night from her daughter, Katie, who is away on a school trip in a beautiful French village.

When I arrived in France as a worried mom, I was shocked by how little anyone seemed to care about Katie being missing. The host family and even the local authorities just didn’t seem concerned enough, and it drove me to keep digging. My search for my daughter quickly turned into a frantic and increasingly dangerous race against the clock, and I knew I couldn’t give up.
