NBC is well-known for its crime and legal dramas, like the various Law & Order and One Chicago series. These shows have consistently been popular in primetime, and that’s expected to continue for the next couple of years. Now, one of these iconic shows is coming to Netflix, which is adding 35 more episodes in May.
Fans of Law & Order have even more to look forward to on Netflix! Following the unexpected release of Seasons 21 and 22 in April – the first time the show has been available on the platform in over ten years – Seasons 23 and 24 will be added on May 18th. That brings the total number of episodes available to stream to 67. Law & Order, the original series created by Dick Wolf, is a landmark police drama, highly influential both on NBC and in television history. The show centers on detectives solving crimes and the prosecutors who work to bring criminals to justice.
Law & Order Is One of the Biggest Crime Shows in TV History

While Netflix doesn’t have every season of Law & Order, adding two more is significant considering how popular the show is. It’s the second-longest-running scripted primetime drama in American television history, surpassed only by its spin-off, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, which has already run for an impressive 25 seasons with 551 episodes. Law & Order originally aired on NBC from 1990 to 2010, took an 11-year break, and then returned in 2021, continuing its record-breaking streak. Season 25 premiered in September, and a 26th season is still a possibility. The show’s success has spawned a whole franchise, including hit spin-offs like SVU, Criminal Intent, and Organized Crime, as well as video games and international versions.
Beyond its incredible run and numerous spin-offs, Law & Order significantly shaped the popular procedural drama format we see today. The show pioneered the now-common two-part episode structure: the first half focuses on the police investigation, and the second on the prosecution in court. But its impact goes beyond just the TV format; Law & Order is instantly recognizable, from its signature “ching-ching” sound to beloved characters like Lennie Briscoe and Jack McCoy, who have become television icons. With an impressive 83% average audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes over 25 seasons, it’s clear the show has been a consistent success.
Where To Stream the Rest of Law & Order?
When the newest seasons (23 and 24) of Law & Order arrive on Netflix on May 18th, 21 older seasons will no longer be available there. Luckily, you can still watch them! The first 20 seasons are all on Hulu, and Peacock has seasons 12 through 25. Netflix might add more seasons later, but that hasn’t been announced yet.
