Netflix offers a wide variety of historical dramas, including popular series like Peaky Blinders and The Last Kingdom, as well as films such as The Pale Blue Eye and All Quiet on the Western Front. For those who enjoyed the recent season of Bridgerton, there’s now a complete historical trilogy available to stream on Netflix.
You can now watch the final chapter of the Downton Abbey story on Netflix! Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, available since March 7th, brings the 15-year journey of the Crawley family and their staff to a close. This film is the third in the Downton Abbey movie series, and the first two – Downton Abbey and Downton Abbey: A New Era – are also available on Netflix. All the films continue the story from the beloved British historical drama that originally aired for six seasons between 2010 and 2015 on ITV in the UK and PBS in the US.
Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale Is a Satisfying Farewell to the Beloved Franchise
As a huge fan of Downton Abbey, I was a little sad to see the story continue beyond the series, but Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale really delivered! The movie jumps forward to the 1930s and follows the Crawley family as they navigate some tough times. Lady Mary is dealing with the fallout from her divorce, and the family’s estate is facing financial trouble, so Lord Grantham is even thinking about letting Mary take over. It originally came out in September, and honestly, it’s been a hit – Rotten Tomatoes gives it a ‘Certified Fresh’ and ‘Verified Hot’ rating with amazing scores from both critics and audiences – 91% and 95% respectively! It’s a really satisfying continuation of the story.
Beyond reuniting the original cast for a last adventure, The Final Chapter successfully concludes the stories of the Crawleys and their staff, offering fans a satisfying resolution. It delivers everything you’d anticipate from Downton Abbey – compelling drama, heartfelt moments, stunning visuals, and that familiar, comforting feel. The film also thoughtfully embraces nostalgia, honoring the characters’ fifteen-year journey in a way that feels genuine and appropriate for a final farewell.
What’s New on Netflix?
March brought a lot of new titles to Netflix, and there are several worth watching. Highlights include the first three Jurassic World films, which are now streaming, as well as popular movies like Deepwater Horizon, The Lego Movie, Matilda, and Zombieland. Horror fans can also enjoy Stephen King’s Sleepwalkers and Misery.
