Netflix adapted Haro Aso’s popular manga, Alice in Borderland, into a live-action series that debuted in 2020 and quickly became a worldwide success, running for three seasons. Though a short animated version came out in 2014, the series didn’t gain widespread attention until the live-action adaptation. The first two seasons were highly praised, but the third season received significant criticism for its weaker plot, less developed characters, and overall poorer storytelling. Despite providing a complete ending, fans still hoped for a fourth season. However, Netflix recently announced that Alice in Borderland will not be returning for another season.
According to Netflix’s official report on viewing habits from the latter half of 2025, Season 3 is labeled as the “third and final season” within the non-English language titles section. While Netflix hasn’t formally canceled the live-action series, this report strongly suggests there won’t be any further seasons. Despite some criticism, Season 3 proved to be the most popular yet, reaching over 25 million viewers from its release through December. Netflix hasn’t commented on the cancellation or if they plan to adapt the spin-off series, Alice on Border Road.
What Is The Plot of Alice in Borderland?

This suspenseful horror story centers on Arisu Ryohei, a high school student who often feels anxious about his future and uses time with his friends to escape. He and his best friends, Daikichi Karube and Chota Segawa, regularly spend time at a bar, waiting for the first train each morning. But one day, a sudden burst of fireworks knocks them unconscious, and their lives are forever changed.
They woke up back at the bar, covered in dust, and discovered the city had been reduced to a desolate wasteland. While most people would be terrified, Arisu felt strangely invigorated – more alive than ever before. He found a surprising sense of freedom in the empty city, free from the pressures and rules of everyday life.
The group arrives at a vibrant festival, so beautiful it feels like a dream. But their joy quickly turns to fear when they discover they’ve been unwillingly entered into a dangerous game. They find themselves in Borderland, a strange and deadly country where the game unfolds, and every wrong move could cost them their lives. All eight episodes of the first season of Alice in Borderland are now available to stream on Netflix.
