Yellowstone’s popularity has made it a benchmark for Western dramas, and other streaming services have attempted to follow in Paramount’s footsteps. Netflix, for example, took a shot with a show that focused on romance.
Despite receiving mixed reviews when it first launched in 2025, Netflix has decided to renew the Western series Ransom Canyon for a second season. The show will officially return on July 23rd.
What Happens in Ransom Canyon Season 2?

If you’re a fan of shows like Yellowstone, you might really enjoy this new Netflix series. It’s got that same dramatic feel, but with a bigger focus on romance. It’s set in a small Texas town where everyone’s connected, and there are lots of love triangles, old family secrets, and disputes over land. The story centers around Quinn and Staten, two lifelong friends who are determined to save their town, and along the way, they realize there’s always been a strong connection between them.
Season 2 of Ransom Canyon begins six months after Quinn, a concert pianist, leaves home to pursue her career. According to Minka Kelly, the show’s star, Quinn always intended to return after six months, but during that time, she didn’t communicate with Staten at all.
Despite not speaking, Staten never stopped thinking about Quinn. He’s been hiding his feelings with how he’s acted, but when he learns she’s returned, he understands he’s messed up and wants to fix things, according to Duhamel.
April Blair, the creator of Ransom Canyon, shared a preview of Season 2. She explained that the show’s world has been expanded, and Quinn’s mother, Claire (played by the legendary Patricia Clarkson), will be arriving. Blair described Claire as a complex character, hinting at a personality somewhere between the witty honesty of Postcards from the Edge and the romantic drama of The Notebook. The season will also reveal past mistakes and secrets surrounding Claire’s life.
I’ve been following the show, and the creator explained that Season 1 was all about defending against external threats – things trying to destroy the way people lived. But Season 2 feels completely different. It’s about the community coming together to rebuild after everything that happened, and honestly, there’s a much brighter and more hopeful feeling to it this time around.
Who Stars in Ransom Canyon Season 2?
Eoin Macken and Andrew Liner, who played father and son Davis and Reid Collins, departed the show during filming. Minka Kelly and Josh Duhamel are back as Quinn and Staten, and they’re joined by new cast members Lizzy Greene, Jack Schumacher, Marianly Tejada, Casey W. Johnson, Tatanka Means, Justin Johnson Cortez, Kenny Miller, Philip Winchester, Jennifer Ens, Brett Cullen, and Niko Guardado.
I’m really excited to see Steve Howey – you might know him from shows like High Potential, Off Campus, and Shameless – joining the cast! He’s going to play Levi, Staten’s half-brother, and from what I understand, Levi’s a bit of a rugged outdoorsman, living a simple life away from everything. And it’s not just Steve – Patricia Clarkson, Ben Robson, and Heidi Engerman are also new to the show, which is fantastic!
Ransom Canyon premieres on July 23 on Netflix.
