Netflix’s Star-Packed Comedy Series Returns As Top 3 Streaming Hit, and Its Major Cameo Cliffhanger Sets Up More

With about half of 2026 gone, Netflix has already had a great year for comedy shows. Several new and returning series have been popular, including the premieres of Big Mistakes with Dan Levy and Rachel Sennott, season two of Kate Hudson’s Running Point, Lisa McGee’s new show How to Get to Heaven from Belfast (following Derry Girls), and the animated comedy Mating Season, among others.

Okay, so I’ve been totally hooked on The Four Seasons – Season 2 just dropped on Netflix on May 28th and it’s fantastic! It’s created by the hilarious team of Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield, and it’s actually based on a movie from way back in 1981 with Alan Alda. Basically, it follows the lives of three couples – six friends total – and shows you all the ups and downs they go through over the course of a year, split into Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. It’s really relatable and funny!

The show boasts a fantastic cast, including Steve Carrell (though he appears for a short time in season two), Tina Fey, Colman Domingo, Will Forte, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Marco Calvani, and Erika Henningsen. It’s become very popular in its second season, racking up 4.4 million views and 18.3 million hours of watch time worldwide in its first four days, according to Tudum. This performance placed it among the top 3 shows globally and in the United States.

The Four Seasons Season 3 Seems Very Likely

Given how well The Four Seasons is performing, it’s likely the show will continue for some time. Coordinating the actors’ schedules, especially Domingo’s, could be challenging. However, cancelling a popular and easy-to-watch show with such a talented cast would be a strange decision for Netflix. The creators are hoping for at least four seasons, and when ScreenRant asked about the show’s potential length, Wigfield responded:

Honestly, when asked how many seasons the show could have, I’d say… well, as many as they’ll let us make! We’re only in our second season right now, so it’s still early days. But we’ll definitely know when the story feels complete and it’s time to wrap things up naturally. Personally, I’d be thrilled to do another season if the opportunity came along.

Warning: SPOILERS for The Four Seasons Season 2 from this point on.

It’s easy to see The Four Seasons continuing for many seasons to come. As a realistic comedy-drama, there will always be new stories to tell with these characters. A lot of the enjoyment comes from seeing the group reunite after time apart and discovering how their lives have evolved, and what unresolved issues still remain. The show doesn’t rely on high-stakes drama or big events like Nick’s death in the first season to stay compelling.

The season 2 finale strongly hinted at a third season, introducing David Tennant as a new character – Anne’s neighbor in Italy. While schedules always play a role, it seems likely we’ll see how his character fits into the story, and he would be a welcome addition to the main cast. Given the romantic setup at the end, it wouldn’t make sense for the show to end there, so many expect Netflix to renew it soon.
