Netflix’s The Blacklist Replacement Shoots to No. 1 With 11.4M Views

Currently, the most popular show worldwide on the streaming service is their new crime drama, Nemesis. This success follows the show’s premiere earlier this month.

I’m completely hooked on Nemesis – it’s absolutely dominating Netflix right now! I’ve been checking the numbers, and it’s way ahead of everything else with 11.4 million viewers. That’s almost double the views of the show in second place, The Boroughs, which has 5.6 million. The rest of the top five this week are Worst Ex Ever Season 2 (3.6 million), The Roast of Kevin Hart (3.1 million), and the first season of Man on Fire with 3 million viewers. It’s a great lineup, but Nemesis is definitely the one to watch!

Netflix Scores Big With the Success of Nemesis

Following the conclusion of its ten-season run on NBC in 2023, Nemesis has emerged as a new series. Created by Courtney A. Kemp and Tani Marole, the show centers on a thrilling cat-and-mouse game between a police detective and a criminal mastermind in Los Angeles. Matthew Law, known from Abbott Elementary, plays LAPD Lieutenant Isaiah Stiles, while Y’lan Noel, famous for Insecure, stars as the career criminal Coltraine Wilder.

According to Netflix’s Tudum, creator Nicci Kemp shared her enthusiasm for the upcoming series, describing it as a gripping psychological crime drama. She explained that while set in a specific location, the show explores relatable themes like morality, love, grief, and the conflict between loyalty and self-interest.

Nne Ebong, Vice President of Studio Scripted Series at Netflix, shared that viewers can expect an exciting experience with Nemesis, a new crime drama created by Courtney and Tani. Courtney’s previous series have consistently become cultural touchstones, and this project marks the first collaboration under a new creative partnership with Netflix.

Nemesis Features a Strong Ensemble Cast

The show’s cast includes Gabrielle Dennis (from A Black Lady Sketch Show) as Dr. Candice Stiles, Isaiah’s wife and therapist; Cleopatra Coleman (The Last Man on Earth) as Ebony Wilder, Coltrane’s wife and accomplice; Sophina Brown (Numbers) as Charlie, Ebony’s sister and a fellow criminal; Ariana Guerra (Helstrom) as Detective Yvette Cruz, Isaiah’s partner; Domenick Lombardozzi (Tulsa King) as Detective Dave Cerullo, another officer with the LAPD; Michael Potts (Highest 2 Lowest) as Captain James Sealey; and Jonnie Park (Sweet Dreams) as Chris Choi, who drives getaways for Coltrane.

Critics are loving the series Nemesis, and audiences seem to agree! It has a 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with most reviewers offering high praise. Julian Lytle from RIOTUS called it a “fantastic show” with great tension and action, and gave it an A grade.

According to Roxana Hadadi of New York Magazine, the competition between Coltrane and Isaiah is both intensely cold and incredibly fun to watch. She also describes the show Nemesis as a beautifully complex work that skillfully blends familiar themes and character types into something strikingly new and original.
