One of the Greatest Sci-Fi Series of All Time Is Still Streaming Completely Free Ahead of the Reboot

Sci-fi fans are spoiled for choice when it comes to TV, with plenty of great series to watch. But one stands out as possibly the best ever made: The X-Files. Created by Chris Carter, the show ran for 11 seasons over 25 years (with a 16-year gap before the final season) and has become a huge part of pop culture. Even with a reboot planned by Ryan Coogler, the original series remains incredibly popular, and now you can stream all of it for free.

You can now watch all 11 seasons of The X-Files for free on Pluto TV! The series became available on January 1st, both as a dedicated channel and through on-demand episodes. It’s a great way to rewatch the show before the reboot, or discover it if you’ve never seen it before.

Pluto TV Isn’t the Only Place You Can Stream Parts of The X-Files This Summer

Beyond being a well-loved, long-running show, The X-Files – starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully investigating unexplained phenomena – also spawned two movies. The first film came out in 1998, and the second, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, was released in 2008. That second movie was a standalone thriller that originally premiered eight years after the show ended, and now a new version will be available on Disney+ starting June 11th.

A remastered version of The X-Files: I Want to Believe will be available on Disney+ starting June 11th. This Director’s Cut reportedly restores some of the scarier, more horror-focused scenes that were removed from the original theatrical release. Creator and director Chris Carter had previously trimmed those scenes to secure a PG-13 rating.

Everything We Know About The X-Files Reboot

Ryan Coogler’s upcoming revival of The X-Files is shaping up to be quite similar to the original series. The show will follow two FBI agents, each with impressive backgrounds but very different approaches, who unexpectedly team up when assigned to a previously closed division dealing with unexplained cases. Danielle Deadwyler, known for her roles in Station Eleven and Watchmen, will be a lead actor. Himesh Patel, also from Station Eleven, will take on the role similar to Mulder in the original series.

It’s still uncertain if David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will be involved in the new series. While both actors have mentioned discussions with the producers, nothing is confirmed. This leaves the possibility open for Fox and Mulder to make an appearance, even if it’s just a brief one.

You can currently stream The X-Files for free on Pluto TV.
