New Assassin’s Creed Game Reportedly in Danger of Cancellation

A new Assassin’s Creed game currently in development at Ubisoft could be cancelled. Ubisoft has already announced two upcoming titles: Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, planned for release this summer, and Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe, expected in 2027. However, reports suggest another, smaller Assassin’s Creed project may not be released.

We’ve been hearing about a game called Assassin’s Creed Invictus for over a year now. However, it’s not a typical Assassin’s Creed game. Instead, it’s a spin-off that plays more like Fall Guys – a surprising direction for Ubisoft, who seem to be expanding into the party game genre with this project.

Recent reports suggest that the upcoming Assassin’s Creed game, Invictus, may not be released after all. According to industry insider @xj0nathan, a recent internal playtest of the game was extremely poor. While Invictus was initially planned for release in 2026, it now seems likely the game will be either significantly delayed or canceled completely.

Although it might seem like a big step, canceling Invictus wouldn’t be unexpected for Ubisoft, considering the recent changes the company has made. Over the past year, Ubisoft has been streamlining its focus to concentrate on its most important franchises. While Assassin’s Creed will clearly remain a priority, company leaders may no longer view Invictus as essential, particularly if early testing didn’t go well.

Even if the new Assassin’s Creed game, Invictus, is cancelled, another one is already on the way. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will be released on July 9th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. We’ll let you know if Ubisoft officially announces Invictus in the future.
