Eighty-eight years ago, Superman debuted in Action Comics #1, immediately revolutionizing the comic book world and setting the standard for superhero movies. Every year, DC celebrates this date as Superman Day, honoring the Man of Steel. This year, they’re also celebrating his cousin, Kara, who will star in the upcoming DCU release in June. Before Kara, Clark Kent, and Krypto all appear in Supergirl later this year, DC is releasing a new story featuring all three of them.
To celebrate Superman Day, DC released the fourth animated short featuring Krypto, titled Krypto Saves the Day. James Gunn has clarified that these shorts aren’t part of the official DC Universe storyline. This short shows Krypto hilariously struggling to enjoy a simple hotdog at the beach with an animated version of Clark Kent. As you might expect, things don’t go as planned! The short is generally more lighthearted than the recent Supergirl movie, which put Krypto in danger. Supergirl herself makes a quick appearance, surfing before getting caught in a whirlpool created by Krypto – a cameo that feels more like promotion than a story beat. You can watch the full short here:
Honestly, Superman Day 2026 Was a Bit of a Bust
It’s surprising that Superman Day didn’t generate more excitement for the upcoming DCU shows, Supergirl and Man of Tomorrow. While we did get a few reveals – like Krypto Saves the Day: Coastal Catastrophe – Superman Day 2026 will likely be remembered as unremarkable. Here’s a rundown of what was shared: James Gunn posted a celebratory message featuring appearances by David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult (who recently shaved his head), Jason Momoa, and Milly Alcock.
Everyone celebrates Superman Day in their own way! Krypto’s enjoying some snacks, Supergirl is going on a fun adventure, and Superman…is surprisingly spending time with Lex?

Gunn also shared a celebration of Lois Lane and Clark Kent from DC Comics…
Happy anniversary to Superman and Lois Lane! Since their debut in 1938’s ACTION COMICS #1 – created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster – they’ve been both protecting the world and sharing its stories, and they don’t intend to stop anytime soon.

Although it was announced that Supergirl would be part of today’s event, DC only acknowledged her presence by hinting at a future team-up between Supergirl and Blondie, whose song “Call Me” was used in the event’s trailer.
Get ready! Blondie and DC Studios’ “Supergirl” are joining forces in an exciting new collaboration!

DC’s official YouTube channel just posted a one-hour video celebrating Superman’s best on-screen moments. It features clips from all four live-action Superman movies, and even includes a quick look at the animated version from the DC Animated Universe.
It’s a little strange we didn’t see any TV commercials for Supergirl, or learn what the collaboration with Blondie will be. Considering where Man of Tomorrow is in production, new details were unlikely, though they could have at least confirmed Adria Arjona’s role. Overall, it feels like a missed chance to share more, especially since so little was shown at CinemaCon.
