HBO’s new Harry Potter series will be a significant departure from the original movies, starting with a return to the book’s original title, The Philosopher’s Stone. The series is bringing back characters like Peeves the Poltergeist, who were left out of the earlier films, and including scenes that didn’t make the cut before. Because it’s a series – planned for six episodes – the adaptation can be much more detailed and comprehensive, offering more than three times the length of the original movies. Interestingly, the show is even adding entirely new scenes not found in the books themselves.
New photos from the set of the upcoming Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone reboot have surfaced, showing scenes filmed at Waterloo Station in London. The Weasley family, including Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, was spotted. However, the most interesting detail is who they were with. A photo of the family descending stairs reveals Molly alongside Fred and George Weasley, actor Daniel Rigby (playing Vernon Dursley), and another actor identified by Wizarding World Direct as John Hopkins. This source believes Hopkins will play Hermione’s father. The presence of these actors either confirms a change to the original movie’s ending or suggests two significant alterations. How The New Harry Potter Reboot Reveal Changes The Movie’s Ending

The first Harry Potter movie originally ended with a scene on the Hogsmeade Station platform, where Harry talks to Hagrid before getting on the train. As Hagrid’s advice about using magic on Dudley Dursley plays, Harry sadly says he isn’t truly going home. While a sweet moment, this replaced the book’s final scene. In the book, Harry returns to King’s Cross and runs into the Dursleys. Vernon rudely responds when Mrs. Weasley excitedly asks if they are Harry’s family, and Hermione cautiously wishes Harry a good summer. Harry then cheekily replies that he’ll have a good summer, hinting he’ll secretly use magic to get revenge on Dudley.
The new TV series is bringing back Vernon Dursley for the final scene, letting the Weasleys and Hermione see just how awful Harry’s uncle is. Even more interesting, Hermione’s father might also appear in that scene – something that didn’t happen in the books. The Grangers aren’t seen until their brief appearance in Diagon Alley in The Chamber of Secrets. This change suggests we’ll be seeing more of Hermione’s life outside of Hogwarts. We already knew the show would show Hermione’s life before she arrives at Hogwarts, instead of her first being seen on the Hogwarts Express looking for Trevor the toad. Regardless, her father’s appearance is another departure from the original story.
