In an unexpected turn of events, enthusiasts of Bungie are finding themselves invited via email to take part in another round of the Marathon Closed Playtest. This move comes amidst criticism and reports about artistic elements used without proper attribution in the initial Closed Playtest and promotional materials for Marathon. To add to the controversy, the game has been postponed indefinitely from its originally scheduled September launch date. Given these circumstances, many fans are left wondering about the rationale behind another playtest session.
Participants spread word about the Marathon Closed Playtest 2 through the Marathon subreddit, and it appears that the second round of testing for Marathon will take place from July 25th to July 27th. Based on the post and comments, it seems invitations are primarily being extended to individuals who took part in the initial test. Along with the invitation, there was a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) that participants must agree to if they want to play Marathon during this playtest.
Without a set launch date, people are puzzled about why this playtest is taking place now, given that fans anticipated updates in the fall, as Bungie had stated they would provide new information about Marathon at that time following the delay announcement. Moreover, Bungie promised to enhance player experience and expand on the universe of Marathon.
As the playtests approach, it appears that few significant adjustments have taken place. Yet, Bungie seems more vigilant about enforcing the Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) compared to the first Marathon playtest. This could suggest that some alterations have been made, and Bungie might be testing the reaction before revealing these changes publicly. It’s still uncertain, but one thing is clear: Marathon is in a delicate position and needs to get this right.
