A new game added to Nintendo Switch Online was initially released with problems, but Nintendo has now fixed it. Over the last month, Nintendo has been expanding the Switch Online library with classic games from the Nintendo Entertainment System, Game Boy Advance, and GameCube. The NES and GBA games launched smoothly, but the GameCube title caused some significant issues for players.
Since being added to Nintendo Switch Online, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness has been experiencing crashes for some players. While the game can be restarted quickly, these crashes unfortunately cause lost save data, meaning players could lose hours of progress and be forced to begin the game from the start.
Good news for players! Nintendo has fixed the crashing issue in Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness with a new update for the Switch Online app. This means you should be able to play without losing your progress.
This Switch Online Problem Could Be Great for Future Games

It was frustrating for Nintendo Switch Online members when they experienced issues with Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness. However, this situation might actually be a good thing. Nintendo plans to release another GameCube Pokemon game, Pokemon Colosseum, on Switch Online soon. Because Colosseum and Gale of Darkness are very similar, Colosseum could have had the same problems with crashing and lost progress. It’s positive that Nintendo addressed these issues with Gale of Darkness quickly, potentially preventing them from happening again with future Switch Online releases.
Nintendo hasn’t announced a release date for Pokemon Colosseum on Nintendo Switch Online yet. However, it will likely be available within the next month, continuing Nintendo’s pattern of adding new GameCube games to the service. It’s important to note that, like all GameCube games on Nintendo Switch Online, you can only play it on the Switch 2 console.
