A new movie in the Blair Witch Project series is coming, and the original actors and filmmakers are involved as producers. This sequel aims to build on the success of the groundbreaking found footage horror film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the original creators of the film – directors Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick, along with stars Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams, and producer Gregg Hale – are all serving as executive producers on the new movie.
The film will be directed by up-and-coming director Dylan Clark, who is known for his successful short films but hasn’t directed a full-length feature yet.
The latest installment in the horror franchise comes from a script by Chris Thomas Devlin, the writer behind the 2022 Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot, but has been revised by Clark. Director Ryan Williams clarified on social media that this isn’t a remake, but a fresh take on the story.

I was so excited when Lionsgate announced a new Blair Witch movie at CinemaCon in 2024! Adam Fogelson, a top person at the studio, said they’re aiming for a fresh take on the original, hoping to bring the scares to a whole new audience. It sounds like they really want to reintroduce this classic horror film to people like me and a new generation of fans.
The original filmmakers weren’t involved with the project, which Leonard publicly complained about on Instagram.
He expressed frustration that, after 25 years, those who have profited the most from their collective work still show a lack of respect, which he found both unpleasant and inappropriate.
The issue has now been resolved, and it will be interesting to see how the new movie pays tribute to the groundbreaking film that came before it.
This is the fourth movie in the series, but unlike the original, which was a huge success despite its tiny budget, neither of the sequels – Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (from 2000) nor the 2016 reboot – were as well-received.
We don’t have details about the story or actors yet, but we’re following the news closely and will let you know as soon as we have confirmed information.
