Summer movie season is almost here, and one film is generating a lot of buzz: Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey. Set to release on July 17th, the movie promises to be a grand adventure. A newly released trailer offers the best look yet at the film, including first glimpses of Robert Pattinson as the villain Antinous and Charlize Theron as Calypso.
The latest trailer shows Calypso questioning Odysseus (Matt Damon) about his memories. As he recalls his wife and son, the trailer cuts to flashbacks of his experiences during the Trojan War and scenes of what’s happening back home in Ithaca. We see Antinous (Pattinson) trying to seize the throne, while Odysseus’ wife, Penelope (Anne Hathaway), remains confident that her husband will return.
The Odyssey May Be Nolan’s Most Ambitious Film Yet
The upcoming film, The Odyssey, looks to be a massive and incredibly ambitious project for director Christopher Nolan. The newest trailer offers the most extensive look yet at the film’s scope and cast, including footage previously shown at CinemaCon. We now see Charlize Theron in her role as Calypso (previously thought to be Circe), as well as scenes of Odysseus fighting the Cyclops and the villainous Antinous. However, these exciting moments are just a glimpse of the full story, as Homer’s The Odyssey is truly an epic tale.
Alongside Damon, Theron, Hathaway, and Pattinson, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Himesh Patel, Will Yun Lee, Mia Goth, and Jimmy Gonzales also star in The Odyssey. Elliot Page, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Rafi Gavron, Shiloh Fernandez, Corey Hawkins, Nick E. Tarabay, Maurice Compte, Michael Vlamis, Iddo Goldberg, Josh Stewart, Ryan Hurst, Anthony Molinari, Jovan Adepo, Logan Marshall-Green, James Remar, Travis Scott, Sean Avery, and Ian Casselberry round out the cast.
