New Transformers Prototype Reveals an Anime-Exclusive Optimus Prime Look-a-Like

Optimus Prime remains incredibly popular, with many new toys released featuring him recently. His design has also influenced other characters, including a unique version exclusive to Japan. Now, this Japanese character is getting a new toy that reflects his appearance in the original anime.

The DX9 Mini Superman Mini-04 is a new collectible figure from DX9 Toys, modeled after Ginrai from the Transformers: Super-God Masterforce series. It accurately captures Ginrai’s look from the anime and comes with his Godmaster engine and trailer. This allows the figure to transform into Super Ginrai, fully embodying the iconic “Chokon Power.”

DX9 Toys Rolls Out New Transformers Toy for Optimus Prime Doppelganger Ginrai

The DX9 Mini Superman Mini-04 is a collectible figure designed to fit within the popular “Legends scale.” It’s a smaller-sized action figure, similar in style to the Transformers: Masterpiece line, and accurately represents the character’s original animated design. This figure depicts a unique Transformer from the Super-God Masterforce series, who stood apart from other characters.

Ginrai started as a human truck driver who gained the power to become a Godmaster. He used special bracelets to transform into an armored form, which then became the engine of his inactive truck, Transtector. Interestingly, Transtector was originally designed to be a new body for Optimus Prime, with only a few differences in how it transformed.

Similar to Optimus Prime, Ginrai can pull a trailer when in vehicle mode and wields two blasters as a robot. It seems the Godmaster/Powermaster feature is still included, meaning you need to connect the Ginrai engine to the truck for it to change into robot form, though this hasn’t been officially confirmed.

Two blasters can be attached to the sides of the trailer. This trailer, which can also carry other Autobot toys in vehicle mode, doesn’t transform into a base. Instead, it combines with the Autobot’s robot form to create Super Ginrai, and the blasters can be mounted on Super Ginrai’s shoulders. Despite its size, the toy is very flexible, and this flexibility carries over to the combined Super Ginrai form.

We don’t yet know when the toy will be available or how much it will cost; the images we’ve seen are still early prototypes. It’s also unclear if they plan to release another figure to complete the God Ginrai version. However, plans for a toy based on a related character have been reported, so more figures from this anime series seem likely.

Released in 1988, Transformers: Super-God Masterforce was the second animated Transformers series, and it’s known for being particularly distinctive. Although it continued the story from Transformers: The Headmasters, it largely told a fresh story with a new group of characters and completely different ideas. Notably, humans now actively fought alongside the Transformers as Godmasters and Headmaster Juniors, and the new Decepticon leader was an unusual being – a disembodied energy source called Devil Z.

The changes happened because the creators felt the storylines had reached a natural conclusion, and characters like Ginrai represented a successful and innovative new path for the series.
