After a somewhat disappointing launch last year, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is receiving updates and its first downloadable content. However, many fans are eager to see what comes next for the Vampire: The Masquerade universe, and now we have an answer: a brand-new game is planned for release in 2026. Early indications suggest it will focus heavily on the series’ renowned storytelling.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Oaths and Ashes is a new role-playing visual novel set in the World of Darkness universe. While not the first of its kind for the franchise, it’s developed by Revive the Spark, a new studio composed of veterans who have worked on previous Vampire: The Masquerade games. Following a mixed response to the last visual novel and lukewarm feelings about Bloodlines 2, this new story aims to deliver a compelling experience that builds on the strengths of Vampire: The Masquerade, potentially offering fans exactly what they’ve been hoping for.
New Visual Novel Game Could Bring Fresh Life to the World of Darkness

The Vampire: The Masquerade games consistently excel at storytelling. The original Bloodlines gained a dedicated fanbase largely due to its captivating narrative, and even though the sequel didn’t fully live up to hopes, its story remained engaging. I kept playing through it despite technical issues and difficult gameplay because of the narrative. That’s why it’s a smart move to go back to the visual novel style for the next Vampire: The Masquerade game.
Although visual novels aren’t as mainstream as action RPGs like Bloodlines, they give Revive the Spark a chance to build on past successes and avoid previous mistakes. Vampire: The Masquerade – Oaths and Ashes aims to deeply explore the series’ established lore with an engaging, story-driven, choose-your-own-adventure style that could be a winning formula. Set in Berlin, the game follows two vampires – a Kindred and a Thinblood – whose lives become connected as they navigate the challenges of vampire existence.

Players will experience the game from the perspectives of both Alice, a member of the Kindred, and Lenz, a Thinblood, creating diverse gameplay. Each character has unique abilities and reasons for acting, and the game’s RPG elements are heavily inspired by the Vampire: The Masquerade tabletop role-playing game. This means players will need to carefully balance maintaining secrecy (the Masquerade) and managing their character’s Hunger while also dealing with the complex politics of the World of Darkness. I’m particularly looking forward to a game that focuses on storytelling and the franchise’s tabletop roots, moving away from the awkward combat that prevented Bloodlines 2 from reaching its potential.
The video game Vampire: The Masquerade – Oaths and Ashes is currently scheduled to come out in 2026, though the specific release date hasn’t been revealed yet. Right now, it’s only confirmed for PC through Steam, but other platforms might be added later. You can add it to your Steam wishlist to stay informed about future news and updates.
