Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 Get New System Updates for June 2026, Here’s What Changed

Nintendo recently released system updates for both its Switch and the new Switch 2. While the company is now concentrating its efforts on the Switch 2, it continues to support the original Switch. The updates are now available, and the original Switch received the more significant changes in this release.

Firmware update 22.5.0 is now available for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. While not a major overhaul, the update includes Nintendo’s standard improvements to system stability, making both consoles perform a little better. The update also includes minor language-related changes for text-to-speech and GameChat features on the Switch 2.

The most significant update Nintendo has made is to the original Switch. They’ve redesigned the eShop’s layout to match the color scheme you’ve chosen in your Switch settings. Plus, you can now use PIN numbers when buying games on the eShop, and videos on the platform have been given fast-forward and rewind controls.

These updates for both the Switch and Switch 2 are relatively small, but they offer useful improvements to the overall experience. We can expect more similar updates throughout 2026, and the Switch 2 will probably get some more significant changes as well.
