Nintendo Switch Online is now more affordable for some users, and this could be a sign of a wider price cut coming soon. Since 2018, Nintendo hasn’t raised the price of the service, except in a few specific areas, and it’s never offered discounts. While this price change is currently limited to certain regions, it does mean that at least some players will be paying less for their Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
In Brazil, Nintendo is lowering the price of its online subscriptions. A 12-month individual subscription will now cost R$109, reduced from R$120. The Family Plan is also cheaper, dropping from R$219 to R$194 for a year. Prices for the Expansion Pack are also being reduced – individual subscriptions go from R$299 to R$279, and the Family Plan version goes from R$469 to R$439. Nintendo hasn’t explained the reason for these price changes, but it likely reflects current market conditions in Brazil.
A Price Decrease in the United States Coming?
Brazil sometimes sees lower prices for Nintendo products because it’s a smaller market and less crucial to Nintendo’s overall business. While Nintendo might raise the price of Nintendo Switch Online in the US eventually, lowering it is unlikely due to the significant costs involved. Plus, the declining value of the dollar suggests prices are more likely to go up. Some would argue the introduction of the Expansion Pack already functioned as a price increase, as features previously available in the standard subscription are now exclusive to the more expensive tier.
Brazil has a large and growing market for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 consoles, with an estimated several million owners. While the exact number isn’t known, a significant portion of these owners likely subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online, which is positive news for the platform.
