Olympian Alysa Liu’s Burgundy Met Gala 2026 Look Deserves a Gold Medal

Alysa Liu proved she can score big in just about anything.

Olympic athlete Ilia Malinin made a strong impression at the 2026 Met Gala in New York City on May 4th. He wore a stunning custom burgundy gown by Louis Vuitton. The gala, known as fashion’s biggest night, celebrated the connection between fashion and art, and Malinin’s dress was a standout. Alysa’s look, created by stylist Katie Qian, featured her iconic striped hair worn down and rosy makeup that matched the bright color of her dress.

Alysa described her style as ‘alternative’ in a recent interview with TMJ4 News on January 26th, adding that she’s a big fan of fashion.

The Olympic gold medalist isn’t afraid to be herself, and she recently shared that she actually pierced her own mouth over two years ago.

She explained that she had her sister help her pierce her lip. Looking in the mirror with the piercing needle, she simply pushed it through.

Alysa’s recent appearance caused a buzz online, not just because of her striking earrings, but also due to her memorable hairstyle – dark brown hair with bold, horizontal platinum blonde streaks.

Alysa’s vibrant hair color wasn’t just a style choice; she shared the meaningful reason behind it.

She explained, “Like trees have rings to show their age, I imagine each year adds a new halo around my hair. It’s been two years, so I have two halos, and soon I’ll have another one.”

When Alysa decided to return to competitive skating after retiring in 2022, she wanted her hair color to look perfect, so she went to a top professional to get it done.

Stylist Kelsey Miller described a recent project as unusual and enjoyable, telling Allure in an interview published on February 6th that it was a welcome change from her typical work.

It took five hours to complete the hairstyle, and Kelsey explained, “We began at the back of her head and worked our way forward. Your hair is a big part of who you are and can really boost your confidence.”
