A highly-rated RPG originally for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 is now available for free to some players. While many consider the late 90s and early 2000s the peak of role-playing games – often recalling the PlayStation 1 and 2 – others believe the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One era represents the genre’s golden age. The PS3 and Xbox 360 generation is often overlooked, even though it saw the beginning of some truly iconic RPG franchises.
In 2010, Mass Effect 2 was the clear standout RPG, and many consider it one of the greatest games ever made. While Fallout: New Vegas is also excellent, it often gets overshadowed by Mass Effect 2. Interestingly, Fallout 3 frequently eclipses Fallout: New Vegas when people discuss the best Fallout game. However, Fallout: New Vegas deserves recognition as a truly great RPG from this generation of gaming.

About the Game
While technically a spin-off, *Fallout: New Vegas* plays very similarly to the main *Fallout* games. The biggest difference is who made it: Obsidian Entertainment developed *New Vegas*, while Bethesda Game Studios made the more recent core *Fallout* titles.
Since *Fallout 5* is still a long way off, *Fallout* fans will probably be replaying the older games for the next several years. However, if the recent rumors about a *Fallout 3* remaster are accurate—and they seem to be—fans will have something new to experience relatively soon.
