Young Adult book series and movies were hugely popular in the 2010s, a level of success that hasn’t been matched so far in the 2020s. The success of franchises like The Twilight Saga and Harry Potter, which started in the early 2000s, led to many popular book-to-movie adaptations that did very well in theaters and became a big part of popular culture. Now, one of the most successful YA franchises from that decade is currently topping streaming charts on Peacock, with a new installment coming out later this year.
All five Hunger Games movies became available on Peacock on January 14th and quickly became popular with viewers. Currently, the first four films hold four of the top ten spots on Peacock’s U.S. streaming chart. The Hunger Games is the highest-ranked, at number five, followed by Catching Fire and Mockingjay Part 1 at numbers six and seven, and Mockingjay Part 2 at number nine. The newest movie, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, which tells the story of a young Coriolanus Snow and the tenth Hunger Games, is the only one not yet in the Top 10.
The Hunger Games’ Peacock Dominance Continues a Trend of Success

It’s no surprise that The Hunger Games is performing well on Peacock. The movies have stayed incredibly popular since they launched the young adult dystopian trend in the 2010s, paving the way for series like Divergent and The Maze Runner. They had all the ingredients for success: a dedicated fanbase from Suzanne Collins’ popular books, a strong and unique female lead, and a compelling dystopian setting that allowed for rich storytelling and social relevance. Combined with perfect timing—filling the gap left by franchises like Harry Potter and Twilight—The Hunger Games became a massive hit.
As a huge cinema fan, I’ve been so excited to see how well these films have done on streaming platforms recently! It’s amazing how The Hunger Games has come roaring back into the cultural conversation. It felt like a lifetime ago when Katniss and Peeta’s story ended, but then the prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, hit theaters in 2023 and instantly reignited everyone’s passion for the series. That movie was a big success, earning nearly $350 million worldwide! And the excitement hasn’t stopped there – Suzanne Collins released a new book, Sunrise on the Reaping, in 2025, and it’s already being turned into a sixth Hunger Games movie, which is coming to cinemas on November 20th. I can’t wait!
