The One Piece manga began its final arc in 2022, but the story is still ongoing. Its length is actually one of its greatest strengths, allowing Luffy and his crew to travel the world, battle challenging enemies, and forge new friendships. This expansive length also allows the story to delve into complex and meaningful themes on a large scale. Freedom is a particularly well-known theme, and Luffy perfectly represents it. He always craved freedom, even before gaining his full power, and his entire journey began with the goal of becoming the freest person alive – a goal he believes can only be achieved by becoming the Pirate King. However, there’s another important theme that One Piece has consistently explored since the beginning, and it’s become even more apparent since Luffy’s recent power-up, though it doesn’t get as much attention as freedom.
Turning Imagination into Reality Is A Core Theme in One Piece
In chapter 218, shortly after departing Alabasta, the Straw Hat Pirates see a massive ship plummeting from the sky. Accompanying this scene is a quote by physicist Willy Karen: “Anything man can imagine is a possibility in reality.” The story hasn’t revealed what this means yet.
