Okay, so I was starting to wonder what happened to Order of the Sinking Star after seeing it at The Game Awards, but good news! They just dropped a new trailer. Even better, Jonathan Blow himself said it’s coming to the new Nintendo Switch 2 and PC when it finally launches this year. I’m really excited about this one!
He announced that Order of the Sinking Star is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. He explained the game is large and full of puzzles, making the Switch 2’s portability a great fit – players can enjoy quick sessions or longer, immersive gameplay.
So, what is Order of the Sinking Star? From what I’ve gathered, it looks like a top-down adventure game packed with puzzles – seriously, over a thousand, according to the creator. But it’s not just one game, it’s actually four separate little games within it! They’re called The Hearty Heroes of Hauling, The Mirror Isles, Skipping Stones to Lonely Homes, and The Promise, and each one has its own unique characters and how you play them.
I’ve been checking out a couple of cool indie games lately. One, called Hearty Heroes, is hilarious – you play as a group of classic RPG characters like a Wizard, Bard, and Warrior, but they’re all running a moving company! Of course, things always go wrong, and each character has special skills to help – the Thief can pull stuff, the Warrior can push, that sort of thing. Then there’s The Mirror Isles, which is really different. You play as a trader who can switch places with his reflection in this weird, foggy archipelago. It’s a really neat mechanic!
You can tackle these mini-games in any order, enjoying the unique challenges each one presents. But things get interesting when the characters from these games start crossing paths, and the levels begin to merge, demanding you cleverly combine their powers – for example, reflecting a fire dragon’s attack. This is all orchestrated by the mysterious Order of the Sinking Star, and it’s your job to uncover their motives.
We don’t have a release date for Order of the Sinking Star yet, but it appears to be a very ambitious puzzle game – and that’s high praise considering how good puzzle games have become recently! We’ll share more information as soon as it’s available.
