There are perks of being an A-lister.
Even though Paul Rudd’s kids, 20-year-old Jack and 16-year-old Darby (who he shares with his wife, Julie Yaeger), don’t usually get excited about their dad being famous, his recent movie, Power Ballad, made in collaboration with Nick Jonas, really impressed them.
Paul shared with TopMob News at the New York City film screening on May 19th that his daughter was thrilled he had the chance to meet Nick Jonas. He said she was really excited about it.
Though the 57-year-old admitted Jack and Darby aren’t always the most vocal with their support.
He explained that his children see his work as something similar to what their father does. He’s happy they have their own priorities, and he believes they’re secretly proud of him, even if they don’t say it.
Although their characters in Power Ballad experience tension after Paul’s character claims Nick’s stole his song, Nick and Paul were actually good friends in real life.
The Marvel actor described a scene early in the movie where their character first meets and begins collaborating with another character. It was the first thing they filmed together, and it allowed both actors to get to know each other personally and as their characters simultaneously. They said it felt natural and they immediately connected.
Despite not having met before, the Jonas Brothers memberimmediately made Paul feel at ease.
He’s genuinely talented, so it was a bit intimidating working with someone so experienced. Thankfully, he was fantastic and we had a lot of fun.

Paul is a powerful superhero, easily defeating villains whether he’s huge or small. But the thought of people hearing him sing was much more frightening to him.
“I’m a little hesitant, to be honest,” Paul said. “I enjoy music and singing, but I don’t consider myself a singer. Still, I had fun with this role, and I think we all secretly wish we could be rock stars.”
The 33-year-old explained that they both really love the films of John Carney, like Once and Sing Street. They appreciate how his movies are heartwarming and uplifting, but also often deliver a meaningful message.
He said he really connected with the film’s themes, and he thought the music was incredible.
Power Ballad is ready to rock your world starting June 5. For more movies premiering soon, read on.
