As a devoted movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the much-anticipated return of “Peacemaker” is finally here! The opening episode of Season 2, titled “The Ties That Grind,” plunges us back into the chaotic life of Chris Smith without missing a beat. Picking up several months post the Butterfly mission, it’s clear that Peacemaker and his fellow 11th Street Kids are still grappling with the aftermath.
And just like in Season 1, they don’t disappoint us by skipping the tradition of a captivating post-credits scene. Here’s a sneak peek at what unfolds during those closing moments.
Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 1’s Thirty Seconds to Mars post-credits scene explained
At the start of the show, Peacemaker encounters Harcourt and observes a bruise on her hand. Curious about its origin, he inquires, and she explains it was from striking her car dashboard. In response, Chris offers a humorous remark about the car possibly deserving the hit due to playing music like The Spin Doctors or Thirty Seconds to Mars. However, Harcourt swiftly retorts, “I don’t get along with Thirty Seconds to Mars, and that’s quite presumptuous of you!
In the post-credits scene of The Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 1, right after our conversation, Harcourt passionately declared, “We can’t lump Spin Doctors together with Thirty Seconds to Mars. Spin Doctors is just that good!” To which I jokingly countered, “Gosh, anyone sounds better than Thirty Seconds to Mars! Even the short-lived garage band I briefly joined beats them!
An additional joke in the movie doesn’t push the story along, but it showcases James Gunn’s signature style of witty dialogue combined with pop culture references. Gunn subtly acknowledges Jared Leto’s portrayal of the Joker since Leto is a well-known musician in the band. The scene serves as a playful wink to why Gunn didn’t include Leto in The Suicide Squad.
In addition to the humor, the first episode of Peacemaker Season 2 showcases the artistic liberty granted to the DC universe by Gunn. Notably, the premiere portrays the main character using cocaine, a substance reportedly prohibited for use in Deadpool and Wolverine under Marvel Studios’ leadership by Kevin Feige.
Peacemaker Season 2 is now streaming on HBO Max in the U.S.
