Since its debut, the popular Netflix series Bridgerton has followed different members of the Bridgerton family each season. While we meet new characters, it’s natural to miss those from earlier seasons who haven’t been featured recently. The absence of a beloved character from the beginning of the show is particularly noticeable now that Season 5 will focus on Francesca Bridgerton and Michaela Stirling.
Phoebe Dynevor, known for her role as Daphne Bridgerton, has spoken about the possibility of returning to the show. In an interview with Collider, she said she’d be happy to reprise the role, but hasn’t been contacted by producers about coming back yet.
I’d be happy to return if asked, but I haven’t received a call yet. As soon as I do, I’ll be there if my schedule allows.

The update about Daphne is surprisingly honest, especially considering she hasn’t been on screen for a while. Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne, wasn’t in seasons 3 and 4 after a short appearance in the first two, and fans have been curious if the character was being removed from the show or if she’d return later.
Dynevor’s recent comments indicate she’s open to returning to the show, and doesn’t seem hesitant at all. The issue appears to be that the show’s writers haven’t yet developed a strong storyline to bring her character, Daphne, back into the series.
This approach aligns with what showrunner Jess Brownell recently told Variety. She explained that the team only wants to bring back former main characters if they have a significant role to play. They’re avoiding simply using characters like Daphne or Simon for quick appearances at events like weddings or funerals, and instead want to wait for a compelling storyline. This makes sense for a show with so many characters, as brief cameos can feel forced. It also clarifies why Daphne hasn’t been seen on the show for a while – the writers are holding out for a substantial story arc for her. Brownell shared these thoughts with Variety.
When the show first started, the creators weren’t quite sure what direction to take it in. We, as cast members, ended up having a unique position because of that. Personally, I’d definitely return if they asked me to be part of it again.
From the beginning, Bridgerton has planned to focus on different siblings’ love stories each season, and Season 5’s focus on Francesca and Michaela shows that the show is continuing to grow in new directions. We’ve explored what this new romance might mean for the future, and how the end of Season 4 set up the characters for another big shift in storylines. While Phoebe Dynevor returning as Daphne would be great, it would need to fit into the current story and not just be a way to bring back a beloved character from the past.
There’s been speculation about recasting, but showrunner Brownell has confirmed that won’t happen. He believes replacing Daphne or Simon would disrespect the original actors’ performances. This should ease the concerns of fans who’ve worried about the Hastings family potentially returning with different actors.
Dynevor appears content with keeping her options open as she focuses on building a film career after becoming famous through the hit show Bridgerton. She’s been working on projects like the Netflix thriller Thrash and the romantic film Beach Read, and still speaks fondly of her Bridgerton colleagues and fans.
