PlayStation Plus Makes “10/10” Open-World RPG With 60 Hours of Content Free for PS5 Users

PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members are getting some new free games, including a large open-world RPG that some players are calling a perfect game, with over 60 hours of gameplay. While PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers don’t get this game for free, it’s a popular title from the PlayStation 4 era that many likely already own. Now’s a great chance for anyone who hasn’t played it to check it out.

In 2017, Guerrilla Games, a PlayStation Studio, surprised everyone with Horizon Zero Dawn, which was their most successful game up to that point. It was a big change for the studio, previously known for the Killzone first-person shooter series. They successfully shifted gears to create a large, open-world role-playing game, and the result was a hit. Critics loved it—it scored 89 on Metacritic and received six nominations at The Game Awards—and players did too, with the game and its sequel selling over 40 million copies combined.

“10/10”

When Horizon Zero Dawn first came out on PS4, it was a visually stunning game. Now, with its 2024 remaster for PS5, it’s again a standout, offering some of the best graphics in the open-world RPG genre on the console – and many PlayStation Plus subscribers are discovering that for themselves.

With the recent addition of the remastered Horizon Zero Dawn to PS Plus Extra and Premium, players on the PS Plus Reddit page have been excitedly discussing the game. A lot of the conversation focuses on how good the 2017 title still looks.

One commenter shared, “This is my first time playing! I never tried it before the remaster, and wow, the game looks amazing. It’s really good so far, and I’m especially enjoying the combat.”

Someone else shared: “I just sent a message to a friend saying how amazing it looks. I originally thought a remaster wasn’t necessary, but this game actually looks fantastic.”

When this remaster was announced and released, many people felt it wasn’t needed, and generally, they were right. The original PS4 version still looks and plays well, especially since it works on the PS5. While it’s still a PS4 game, the PS5 version of Horizon Zero Dawn is stunning and visually matches its sequel, Horizon Forbidden West. Unfortunately, Horizon Forbidden West isn’t currently included with PS Plus.

If you haven’t played Guerrilla Games’ open-world RPG yet, now is a great time to start. The main story of Horizon Zero Dawn takes around 20 to 25 hours to finish. Exploring side quests will add another 20-25 hours, bringing the total playtime to about 45 hours. If you’re a completionist, expect to spend at least 60 hours in the game. Plus, the game includes The Frozen Wilds expansion, which offers an additional 7 to 20 hours of content.
