Wow, what a year it’s been as a Pokémon fan! Celebrating 30 years is amazing, and we’ve gotten some awesome new collectibles and Pokémon card releases. Plus, Pokémon Pokopia totally blew everyone away – it’s been such a fun surprise! But honestly, it was a bit of a letdown finding out Pokémon Winds and Waves won’t be here until 2027, and probably not even until the very end of the year. Luckily, there are other great monster-taming RPGs out there to keep us busy, and I’m really excited about a new one that just came out – it feels like it might scratch that classic Pokémon itch we’ve all been feeling!
Today, April 30th, Monster Crown: Sin Eater is available on PC through Steam, as well as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. The game boasts a classic 2D pixel art style and a unique, branching storyline not often found in RPGs. Players can collect and train a diverse roster of monsters to battle alongside them. It seems like Monster Crown will appeal to fans of classic monster-collecting games while also delivering a deep and engaging single-player RPG experience.
Monster Crown: Sin Eater Puts a Branching Narrative Twist on the Creature Collector
Monster Crown: Sin Eater is a promising monster-taming RPG that aims to redefine the genre. The game boasts beautiful 2D pixel art, blending a retro aesthetic with a vibrant, modern look. With over 1,000 unique monsters to collect and train, it’s sure to appeal to fans of games like Pokémon. What truly makes Monster Crown stand out, however, is its branching storyline where your choices have a real impact on the game.
I’ve sunk a lot of hours into Pokemon and other monster-catching RPGs, and honestly, the story always feels pretty much the same – you follow a set path to become the best. But in Monster Crown: Sin Eater, that’s different. Your decisions actually matter and change how the story plays out, which is something I’ve been waiting for in this genre!
In Monster Crown, you play as Asur, a young farm boy trying to rescue his family. You’ll journey across the expansive Crown Nation, swinging from vines and breaking through obstacles, while deciding whether to team up with different groups or forge your own path. A key part of the game is collecting and training a team of powerful monsters. For those who enjoy rare monster hunts, Monster Crown features special ‘Brilliant’ monsters that are very rare – appearing only 1 in 1000 times!

In addition to collecting a wide range of unique monsters, Monster Crown features a detailed breeding system, giving you even more ways to create your perfect team. Monsters can also change forms under certain conditions, encouraging players to try out different items and discover hidden possibilities. If you’re looking for a fresh take on the creature-collecting genre, Monster Crown seems to offer plenty of variety while staying true to the elements fans enjoy.
The game Monster Crown: Sin Eater is now available on PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. It costs $24.99 on all platforms, and there’s currently a 10% discount on Steam.
