A trio of Ghost Riders, hailing from different epochs, unite to protect the universe, with one being a previously overlooked Spirit of Vengeance. While Johnny Blaze is generally recognized as the iconic Ghost Rider, Danny Ketch isn’t far behind in popularity. Throughout Marvel Comics, the Spirit of Vengeance has inhabited various hosts, giving fans multiple encounters with distinct Ghost Riders. In recent times, Marvel Comics have been enriching the Ghost Rider lore, culminating in a thrilling climax that binds together the entire Ghost Rider heritage.
As a passionate film enthusiast, I can’t help but express my excitement for the limited five-issue series, “Spirits of Violence.” Penned by Sabir Pirzada, the writer behind “Spirits of Vengeance,” and beautifully illustrated by Paul Davidson, whose work graced titles like “Namor” and “X-Force,” this exhilarating tale weaves together the entire Ghost Rider legacy.
The narrative unfolds as a perilous saga that brings together a diverse array of characters who have donned the Ghost Rider mantle, including Johnny Blaze, Danny Ketch, Kushala, Hellverine, newcomer Fantasma, the anticipated return of Robbie Reyes, and more. The storyline revolves around these heroes and their loved ones being threatened by a menacing entity known as the Spirit of Violence.
In a recent discussion, Pirzada mentioned that readers who followed our earlier series, “Spirits of Vengeance,” would recall Barbara Ketch as the vessel for the Spirit of Violence. Excitingly, it has been revealed that Danny’s sister has come back from the dead and has already claimed the life of Linda Littletrees. This event marks the beginning of what Pirzada calls the ‘Violent Era’ of Ghost Rider, a time when anything goes. The end of issue 2 is particularly significant as it demonstrates that we are not holding back or playing it safe.
In the October 2020 issue of Ghost Rider: Robbie Reyes Special #1, Robbie Reyes was last seen working together with Fantasma. Since then, Fantasma has moved on to join the team in New Champions, but she’ll have a chance to encounter some Ghost Riders from the past in Spirits of Violence. Previously, Robbie Reyes was a main character in Jason Aaron’s run of Avengers, and he was also portrayed by Gabriel Luna in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
