Prime Video’s 5-Part Hit Series Hits 57 Million Viewers Per Episode Amid Fan Backlash

Okay, so it’s official – this show is killing it on Prime Video. The numbers just came out, and honestly, it’s a massive success. As a movie and TV buff, I’m not surprised, but it’s great to see it getting the recognition it deserves!

Prime Video announced that Season 5 of The Boys – also the show’s final season – is currently attracting 57 million viewers per episode worldwide. This is the highest viewership the show has ever seen, and these numbers are based on data collected over just five weeks. Prime Video counts viewers who watch at least a portion of each episode to calculate these ratings.

Season 5 of The Boys was a huge hit for Prime Video, ranking among its top 10 most-watched seasons ever. It also caused the biggest jump in viewership over a three-week period for any movie or series on the platform.

The Boys Is Officially Ending

It’s often hard for popular TV series to have satisfying endings, and many have disappointed fans. But the finale of HBO’s Game of Thrones was unique. The show was based on the detailed books by George R.R. Martin, who is still writing the series – including the highly anticipated book, The Winds of Winter.

The TV show The Boys is based on a comic book of the same name, created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The comic book series finished its 72-issue run, meaning there’s a complete story for the show to draw from. However, fans will have to wait until May 20th to see how closely the show will follow the original source material.

While The Boys has been mostly well-received, some viewers have expressed concerns. Many fans are praising Jensen Ackles’ performance as Homelander, but some feel certain episodes didn’t add much to the story and that the season moved too slowly.

He responded to the ratings news by saying the viewership numbers were encouraging, especially given the amount of discussion online. He explained that when he first started paying attention to online comments – on social media and elsewhere – it felt overwhelming and frightening, like those opinions were all that mattered.

The creator explained that seeing the online ratings made them realize, again, that what happens online doesn’t necessarily reflect reality. They acknowledged that while some people express strong opinions online – and that’s okay – those voices represent only a small part of the overall population. Once they looked at the actual numbers, they felt much better.

The Boys Season 5 Is Not the Lowest-Rated Entry Yet

Currently, Season 3 is the highest-rated, earning a ‘Certified Fresh’ score of 98%. Seasons 2 and 5 closely follow with 97%, then Season 4 at 92%, and Season 1 with 85%. Every season of the show has received the ‘Certified Fresh’ designation.

Viewers clearly prefer the earlier seasons. Season 1 is the most popular, earning a 90% approval rating, followed by Season 2 at 84%, Season 3 at 73%, and Season 5 at 66%. Season 4 is the only one currently receiving negative feedback, with a score of 54%.

The Boys Season 5 ends with Episode 8, “Blood and Bone,” on May 20 on Prime Video.
